Information Systems sub-department is major in Information Technologies. More than 1000 experts in Information Systems, Program and Hardware maintenance of Computer Facilities and Networks, Automated Design Systems, and Computing and Software graduated since the establishment of the sub-department in 2005.

The graduates successfully work in information and financial and economic divisions of large enterprises such as Ulba Metallurgical Plant, KazZink, Titanium and Magnesuim Combinat, etc. They maintain and administer corporate systems of power companies and telecommunication enterprises. Some have become leading experts of major computer companies.

Now the sub-department provides two Bachelor courses:

• 5B070300 - Information Systems
• 5B070400 - Computing and Software

Two Master courses:

• 6M070300 - Information Systems
• 6M070400 - Computing and Software

There is also Doctoral course:

• 6D070300 - Information Systems

Since 2008 the sub-department actively introduces distance education technologies.

Mission of the sub-department: to provide qualitative preparation of IT-experts, and to create new and to develop existing directions IT using the knowledge, experience, corporate intelligence and moral potential of the faculty. The faculty support a cult of knowledge and aspiration to success, therefore realization of the mission is aimed at training professionally competent experts. Knowledge is the guarantee of a successful career in a prospering society.

Strategic directions of the sub-department activity are:

• formation of scientific and pedagogical school in the Republic Kazakhstan in the directions connected to information systems and technologies;
• growth of quality of educational services and creation of positive image of educational services of the sub-department;
• tailoring consumers’ understanding of difference of educational services provided by EKSTU from those by competitors and maximization of the share in the educational market of the region and the Republic as a whole.

Competitiveness of the university is one of the main conditions for successful reform of the national education system. Ensuring the competitiveness of the university depends on the objective work units (departments). Introduction of innovative education, integrated with the world's educational systems, based on the technical and technological progress has allowed the department to take its rightful place among the similar departments of all universities in Kazakhstan. Department received certificates according to the results "Rating 2014" independent agency for accreditation and rating among higher educational institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan:

• 1st place in the master specialty 6M070300 - Information systems;
• 2nd place in the doctoral specialty 6D070300 - Information systems;
• 3rd place in the master specialty 6M070400 – Computering and software;
• 3rd place in the bachelor specialty 5B070400 – Computering and software.

Scientific and educational potential of the department determines the high quality of educational services that allows to prepare the specialists of new formation which has broad fundamental knowledge, professional competences in the field of IT - technologies for the benefit of the individual, the state and society.
