Important events in the life of the university

In 2005 EKSTU named after D. Serikbayev was given a positive attestation by the state attestation commission for 5 years period, No 835 order of the Ministry of education and science of the Republic of Kazakhstan from the 10th of November 2005.

In 2007 the Committee on control and attestation in the sphere of education and science of the Ministry of Education and Science (MES) performed the audit of EKSTU activity in the Republic of Kazakhstan education legislation abidance. Its activity was accepted as coinciding with the license requirements.

According to the results of an independent questionnaire survey of Kazakhstan HEI in 2007, carried out by the National accreditation center of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, the D. Serikbayev EKSTU took the second place in the rating of technical HEIs of Kazakhstan.

Education by means of distance educational technologies, based on the telecommunication technologies for broadcasting, case technology is realized as well as the Internet and local computer network for educational recourses approach of students who are in different regions of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Russia, Poland, China and other countries in all the directions and specialties of EKSTU.

In 2006 for the first time in Kazakhstan “Bastau” students’ technological business-incubator (STBI) was established being an innovative infrastructure for youth initiative support in the sphere of small business development.

In 2006 the best teachers of the university received the keys from flats in the 80-flats house.

In 2007 “Bastau” STBI” became the winner taking the first place in the Start-up Kazakhstan republic contest aiming at university technological business-incubators network among the 70 Kazakhstan HEI.

In the business plans republic contest “Bastau” STBI” having taken part with the “Modernization of outdated computers stock” project took the first prize and received financial grant in the amount of 50 thousand US dollars.

For the further development of “Bastau” STBI” a special network of students’ research and development, technological and project bureaus has been established (SRDTPB). For conducting independent expertise of projects recommended for presenting to Supervisory Council of Scientific and Innovation Fund JSC, Students scientific and technical University Council.

“Altai-Alliance” academic, scientific, innovative and production complex is actively developing comprising on the associative base academic, scientific, research and development, production, financial and other structures of the region. The wide cooperative relations have been improved with Hong-Kong University and technopark, Urumqi technopark (China), with the Almaty branch of “Hewlett-Packard International Trade B.V.”, “Technopark” Tomsk International business-center, Beijing International business-incubator.

The Byelorussian-Kazakhstan Center for scientific and technical cooperation has been recently established one of the tasks of which is to create a joint network of technology transfer for “Altai-Alliance”.

“IRGETAS” educational, scientific, research, innovative laboratory of engineering profile has been established.

On the 19-20th of May, 2007 a forum with the participation of the business elite of China and East Kazakhstan oblast took place on the basis of “Altai” technopark. The result of the forum was concluding of cooperation agreements between various industrial and trade organizations of China and Kazakhstan.

A regional network operational center (NOC) of “KazRENA” scientific and educational computer network users Association has been established. The decision of “KazRENA” Administration Board was approved by Kazakhstan HEI Association and NATO’s scientific committee “Virtual Silk way” project. This grant comprises a full equipment unit for regional NOC which will provide high-speed access to the Internet for the scientific and educational organizations of Ust-Kamenogorsk.

On the 14-15th of June, 2007 EKSTU and “Altai” technopark hosted XVII Foreign Investors Forum with the Republic of Kazakhstan President N. Nazarbaev’s participation.

On the republic Teachers –innovators forum hosted by the Ministry of Education and Science on the 29-30th of June, 2007, the university presented Kazakhstan innovative university model and multi-authored monograph called “The transformation of a technical HEI into innovative university”.

On the 20th of July 2007 EKSTU named after hosted republic workshop-discussion on the theme “Problems of Kazakhstan innovative universities’ formation and development” Zh. Tuimebaev, Minister of Education and Science. Zh. Karibzhanov, oblast mayor with the participation of investors and the representatives of “Technology transfer and engineering center” JSC conducted the Opening Ceremony of High Technologies Zone.

From the 26th of August up to the 4th of September, 2007, the delegation of 23 professors and teachers of EKSTU were invited to China to participate in the Shanghai innovation technologies forum. The participants form Japan, South Korea, France, Germany, Finland, India and other countries took part in this event.

In October 2007 Forum of bordering territories with the participation of Kazakhstan and Russia Presidents took place in Novosibirsk. The “Science and education in the 21st century” scientific symposium was conducted. The delegation of EKSTU named after participated in the forum from the Kazakhstan side. The university together with Siberian state geodesy academy presented a joint integration project “Information and cartographic support for Kazakhstan and Russia border territories sustainable development” at the “Innovative potential of Russian-Kazakhstan cooperation in the sphere of knowledge intensive technologies” exhibition, which was awarded by a diploma.

In October 2007 the first Global Summit of International Consortium of the International Engineering Education Societies (IFEES) and the 6th Global colloquium of American Society of Engineering Education (ASEE) took place in Istanbul. The delegation consisting from rectors, professors and students from 3 Kazakh universities (D. Serikbayev EKSU, KarSTU and M. Kozybayev NKSU) took part in their work.

In September, 2008, the “Role of Universities in Innovative economy creation” International Scientific and Practical Conference have been delivered on the base of university, dedicated to the Ust-Kamenogorsk Civil and Highway Engineering Institute – D. Serikbayev EKSTU the 50th anniversary celebration. The representatives of education from Japan, the USA, Germany, Poland, Denmark, India, the South Korea, China, Russia, Ukraine, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan have participated at the conference.

On the eve of 50th anniversary the university received the high “European Quality” international award. The university was nominated on this award according to the results of research concerning the educational service quality and aspiration for reach its high quality in compliance with the European standards.

In December, 2008, on the base of EKSTU the first time in the region was opened the Corner of Europe – “The Corner of the European Union”. The opening of the corner became the main part of the visit of the Delegation of European Commission in the D. Serikbayev EKSTU, in ceremony have been participated the Ambassador and the Head of the European Commission Delegation for Kazakhstan Mr. Norbert Jousten, Mr. Rene Mally, the Head of Operations Section of the European Commission Delegation to the Republic of Kazakhstan, First Secretary, as well as Ms. Elena Levchenko, coordinator of the European Commission Programs in the Republic of Kazakhstan.

The Corner of Europe is an important step in implementation of the “Path to Europe” State program on 2009-2011 approved by the Head of State Mr. N. Nazarbayev on the threshold of Kazakhstan’s chairmanship in the Organization on Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) in 2010. The main goal of event is to lay the constructive foundation of the university’s technical and science cooperation with the European Union countries, which will allow going on the new level of integration, study and introduction of the European experience of scientific-educational management in the institute of higher education.

The opening of Corner of the European Union is an action, which served for integration of all lines of activity in the entire system of cooperation.

On the 29 of December 2008 the agreement of collaboration between D.Serikbaev East Kazakhstan State Technical University and Hoseo University (South Korea) had been sighed. The subject of the agreement is to enter into an education cooperation program to establish the Dual Master’s degree programme of entrepreneurship. As the result of education on MBA programme the students will achieve master degree of each university in accordance with their academic standards.

In February 2013 the XIII Republican scientific-technical conference of students, graduates and young scientists "Creativity young is for the innovative development of Kazakhstan." was in D. Serikbayev EKSTU.

On the 25^th of February Rector of D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan State Technical University, Doctor of Physical and Mathematical Sciences, professor, the academician of NIA RK - Nurlan Temirbekov was elected as a corresponding member of the Sciences National Academy of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the specialty "Information Technology".

In March 2013 was signed a memorandum of understanding between
D. Serikbayev EKSTU and the University of Science and Technology in Krakow, in the name of Embassy Counsellor of the Poland Republic in the Republic of Kazakhstan - Mr. Mechislava Lapanovski and the Doctor PhD of AGH University of Science and Technology Stanislav Stashitsa (Krakow) - Mr. Marek Bergander.

In April, the Inaugural Meeting of the Board of Rectors of the Eastern region of the Republic of Kazakhstan was on the basis of the Univerisity, the chairman of which was the Rector of D. Serikbayev EKSTU - Nurlan Temirbekov. Discussing and confirmation of Rectors Board and also the Work Plan of Rectors Board on 2013 was during the meeting.

In July, the Center of Bologna process and the academic mobility of the Ministry of education and science of Kazakhstan presented the top of 30 best universities in the country in 2013. 69 universities of the republic on 108 educational programs and 11 directions took part in it. D. Serikbayeva EKSTU joined the 3 top universities in the direction of "engineering sciences" and also in the 3 top of 10 educational programs and took ninth place in the top 30 best universities of Kazakhstan!

In September, D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan state technical University celebrated its 55^th anniversary. All the great progress of D. Serikbayev EKSTU achieved during the five and half decades is the result of many years of profitable work of University administration, the faculty to improve the quality of the educational process, the development of educational and laboratory base, creating all of the conditions to receive modern education.

On the 19^th of September the International conference "Computational and informational technologies in science, engineering and education - 2013 (VIT-2013)" was in D. Serikbayev EKSTU. It was organized by the Ministry of education and science of the Republic of Kazakhstan, D. Serikbayev EKSTU, Institute of computational technologies SB RAS (Russia), Al-Farabi Kazakh national University. Academicians of the Sciences National Academy of Kazakhstan, Russia, Azerbaijan, Uzbekistan, Kyrgyzstan and also leading scientists from Germany, Turkey, Sweden, Serbia and other countries took part in the conference. The work conference was conducted in three main directions: computer technology, information and telecommunication technologies and computational mathematics.

The 29^th and 30^th of October 2013, experts group of ASIIN (Germany) in the framework of specialized accreditation visited the University. The external audit of educational programs cluster C (the specialty "Metallurgy" (undergraduate, graduate), "Technological machines and equipment" (undergraduate, graduate), "Transport, transport equipment and technologies" (graduate) was conducted.

On the 27^th of November two specialty of undergraduate and graduate 5B070200 and 6M070200 «Automation and management» passed successfully the international accreditation at the department of "Instrument engineering and ATP" of D. Serikbayev EKSTU. The accreditation was conducted by the Agency ASIIN, certificates of accreditation confirm full compliance specialties European quality standards and requirements to engineering and master's programs (label EUR-ACE).

In February 2014 on the results of the Republican contest of the Ministry of education and science of RK "The Best teacher of the University" three teachers of D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan state technical University joined in the best teachers of higher educational institutions of Kazakhstan!

In April the memorable meeting with the son of the famous classic of Kazakh literature - Mukhtar Auezov - central figure of Kazakhstan, the candidate of philological Sciences, ex- ambassador of the Republic of Kazakhstan in China - Murat Auezov. He visited the University with the descendant of another famous Kazakh public figure - Dinar Kunayev.

In March, the panel discussion "Evaluation system and selection of scientific research. Strengthening partnerships in research" organized by JSC "National center of state scientific and technical expertise" together with the British Council was in the University with the support of MES RK. More than 300 representatives of native universities, research institutes and other national scientific organizations and 20 leading researchers from the United Kingdom took part in the event.

In May, the XIV Republican scientific-technical conference of students, graduates and young scientists hosted "The creation of young is to innovative development of Kazakhstan" was in the University. Students and young scientists from thirteen leading universities of Kazakhstan took part in the conference. There was discussed questions concerning on the social and political activity of youth in the Republic, innovations in construction and architecture, engineering, transportation, and material science, mining and metallurgical industry.

At the end of May the exhibition "Oskemen EXPO-2014" was held, it became a logical continuation of the VII Astana economic forum, and also there was the International scientific-practical conference "Green economy is the future of humanity". The following participant took part in the event: Members of the Government of RK, deputies of the Senate and Majilis of RK and representatives from more than twelve countries - laureate of the Nobel prize, the largest businessmen and scientists. There were 24 innovative projects, including the projects of scientists of D.Serikbaeva East Kazakhstan state technical University in the exhibition.

In the framework of the event the meeting of science intellectuals and students from 6 Universities of the region with Nobel prize Laureates in chemistry Kurt Wyuthrich, Nobel Laureate of the World Svyatoslav Timashev and famous scientists Klaus Thiessen, Aleksey Kavokin and Jozeppe Aramo was in the University.

In June, on the second module of the training leaders program in higher education universities of Kazakhstan with two representatives of D. Serikbayev EKSTU, namely the rector of the University N. Temirbekov and Director of the Educational work department and social development Bakyt Zlobin, were trained in the Center of higher education of the Berkeley University (California, USA) and in the school of public policy at the Lee Kuan Yew in the national University of Singapore.

In July, the Center of Bologna process and academic mobility MES RK presented the top 30 best universities in the country in 2014, in this year D. Serikbayev EKSTU joined the group of leaders on ten educational programs of bachelor and included in the top 30 best universities of Kazakhstan becoming the leading University in the region!

On the 30^th of October military Department of D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan state technical University celebrated its 15th anniversary.
