Project abstract:
Global processes resulting in climate change, the withdrawal of part of the Yertis River's upstream flow and the growth of industry entail a deterioration in the environmental situation of the transboundary Yertis River. Being the largest waterway of the republic, flowing through the territory of East Kazakhstan, Abai and Pavlodar regions, it experiences a strong anthropogenic impact, as a result of which the aquatic ecosystem suffers.
Currently, monitoring of the environmental condition of the water body is carried out separately for each city within the regions. There is no linked database on the impact of various factors, where the role of each source of pollution throughout the entire river area would be adequately assessed. There is a need to have scientifically based assessments of the ongoing and possible future changes in the quantity and quality of water, which lead to changes in the ecosystem of the Yertis River, the water regime under the influence of natural and anthropogenic factors.
The use of GIS technologies will allow the development of a geoportal with the integration of all necessary information, including: remote sensing of the Earth (satellite imagery and UAV materials), cloud computing and artificial intelligence.
The creation of a database from disparate sources and real data obtained from field measurements of the hydrological regime and water quality of the Kazakh part of the Yertis basin, the state of aquatic biota in the context of global processes of climate change, transboundary use and anthropogenic impact, will give a picture of the impact of various factors on the state of terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems.
A comprehensive study of the current state of the Yertis River will allow us to assess the conditions of existence of ecosystems associated with its water area, mechanisms of adaptation to industrial impact, and their threshold levels.
This will allow all interested organizations to quickly receive and use data for the purpose of sustainable regional development.
Goal:
Assessment of the water ecosystem of the Yertis river basin under the conditions of industrial development and global processes.
