Automation and control - is a field of science and technology, which includes a set of means, methods and methods of human activity aimed at creating and applying algorithmic, hardware and software for systems and means of monitoring and controlling mobile objects, autonomous systems, technological lines and processes, liberating a person partially or completely from direct participation in the processes of receiving, transforming, transferring and using energy, materials and information.

Sphere of professional activity

Graduates are prepared for work in the field of automation, infomatization and management in technical systems related to the application of information processing tools and methods for management in all areas of production.

Objects of professional activity

The objects of professional activity of graduates are automated control systems for technological processes of various industries, automated information and control systems for various purposes, automated systems for receiving, processing and transmitting data for various purposes, automated design systems for systems, objects, devices, automated systems for technological preparation of production of various industries, automated systems for complex testing of parts, products, assemblies, devices in various industries.

The subject of professional activity is the development, creation and operation of automated production systems; methods of analysis, forecasting and control of technological processes, technical systems and research facilities of high technologies.

Functions of professional activity

The functions of professional activity are the organization and implementation of modern methods and means of creating various automated control systems.

 Areas of professional activity

Engineering and scientific activities in the field of automation and control of technical systems and technological processes, as well as in the field of applied sciences and science-intensive production.

Content of professional activity

Service and operational activities:

  • operation of automatic, automated and information systems, means of data transmission and information flows, diagnostics, monitoring and control, their technical, information, mathematical and software;
  • prevention, repair, adjustment of technical means of automation and informatization, testing of technological equipment.

Production and technological activities:

  • development and implementation of optimal technologies for the manufacture of technical means of automation, informatization and equipment operation;
  • organization and effective implementation of incoming quality control of materials, production control of technological processes, quality of finished products;
  • effective use of materials, equipment, algorithms and programs for selecting and calculating the parameters of technological processes;
  • implementation of metrological verification of the main instruments for measuring the quality indicators of manufactured products;
  • standardization and certification of technical means of automation and equipment during their manufacture and repair.

Organizational and managerial activities:

  • organization of the work of the team of performers, making management decisions in conditions of different opinions;
  • finding a compromise between different requirements (cost, quality, safety and deadlines) both in long-term and short-term planning and determination of optimal solutions;
  • assessment of production and non-production costs to ensure the required product quality.

Design and engineering activities:

  • the formulation of design goals and objectives under the given criteria and constraints;
  • development of generalized options for solving problems, analyzing these options, predicting the consequences, finding compromise solutions in conditions of multi-criteria;
  • development, design, modeling and implementation of projects for automation, informatization of production and technological processes, taking into account energy, technological, design, operational, ergonomic and economic indicators.

Experimental research activities:

  • carrying out analytical and experimental work and research to diagnose and assess the states of units and technological processes using the necessary methods and means of control and analysis;
  • creation of mathematical and physical models of complex systems, production and technological processes and equipment;
  • planning an experiment and using methods of mathematical processing of results;

Studying proccess

To conduct classes, students are provided with laboratories of the center of competence and technology transfer in the field of automation and mechatronics, the Veritas advanced development center, the goals of which are to introduce modern scientific and practical technologies into the process of technical education and increase the prestige of engineering education among all categories of citizens of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

On an ongoing basis, open classes are held, which provide for the demonstration of advanced forms and methods of educational and production work, analysis of the didactic effectiveness of the use of technical teaching aids, demonstration of visual forms and techniques, instilling respect for students in their chosen specialty.

Practices

During the period of study for undergraduate students, the following types of practices are provided:

  • Educational practice;
  • 1st industrial practice;
  • 2nd industrial practice;
  • Undergraduate practice.

The basis of the effectiveness of production/educational practice is the independent and individual work of students in the conditions of automated control of technological processes. An important factor is the introduction of the student to the social environment of enterprises (organizations) with the aim of forming the competencies necessary for working in a professional environment.

According to the educational program "Automation and control" contracts are implemented with enterprises and organizations of the city of Ust-Kamenogorsk: LLP UK MK "Kazzinc"; JSC "UMZ"; JSC "UK TMK"; "National nuclear center" of RGP na PHV, g. Kurchatov;  "Iron Technik" LLP; "Sinetik" LLP; "Altaienergonaladka" LLP; NICTBCM; NTP "Altai"; JSC "KEMONT"; LLP "UK Teplovye Seti", JSC "KEGOC" AES UK TPP, GP "Vodokanal", Belousovsky GOK, enterprise corporation "Kazakhmys", LLP "Silumin-Vostok", etc.  As part of these agreements, professional practice for students is conducted. It is possible to carry out research in the laboratories of the engineering profile "Veritas", Center of competence and technology transfer in the field of automation and mechatronics under the guidance of leading specialists of the educational program at the university.

Academic mobility

According to the program of academic mobility, students of the specialty "Automation and management" are studying in Hungary, Poland, and Malaysia. In 2021-2022, students studied at Lublin Technical University (Poland). One of the attractive aspects of studying at the University of Europe is the opportunity to visit other cities and countries. Thus, students were able to visit many European capitals: Paris, Rome, Vienna, Budapest, Bratislava, Amsterdam, Berlin, Warsaw, etc.

Competition

Under the guidance of teachers, students of the educational program "Automation and Control" participate in competitions, exhibitions, Olympiads and other events of national and international importance.

March 24 and 25, 2022. on the platform VKTU im. D. Serikbaeva passed the international online hackathon - a competition for the development of ideas on the topic related to atomic energy, "HACKATOM CIS", organized by the State Corporation "Rosatom", NRIAU MEFI, other base universities of Rosatom - NI TPU, NIU "MEI", SPbPU Petro Velikogo . 9 teams from 4 universities of Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia took part in the competition. According to the results of the competition, two teams of VKTU took the 1st and 2nd prizes. All participants received a certificate, and the winners also received prizes from GC "Rosatom" - branded mobile energy storage devices!

Students annually take part in the Republican subject Olympiad among students of higher educational institutions of the Republic of Kazakhstan in the specialty "Automation and control" and always take prize places, which proves that they all have the necessary knowledge to become qualified specialists in the field of automation and control.

Research work of students

Students actively participate in the Republican annual competition of scientific research works of students in natural, technical, social, humanitarian and economic sciences in universities of the Republic of Kazakhstan, which is held annually by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan on the basis of higher educational institutions.

Students actively publish the results of their research in the materials of International, Republican conferences and journals.

On April 7-8, 2022, the VIII International scientific and technical conference of students, graduate students and young scientists "Creativity of young innovative development of Kazakhstan", dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the first rector D. Serikbaeva, was held at the East Kazakhstan Technical University named after D. Serikbaeva. and 100th anniversary of the second rector Sidorova A.K.

Protection of diploma projects

Defense of diploma projects before the attestation commission is carried out with the demonstration of graphic material, accompanied by the presentation of the diploma work on the chosen topic. As the chairman of the certification commission, leading engineers, employees of enterprises in the field of automation of technological/production processes are invited.

Social activities

Educational work is carried out systematically using various forms of activity corresponding to the developing directions of the educational and organizational and educational sphere (curator's hours, round tables, debates, festive evenings, talks, meetings, competitions, "Department Days" in the dormitory, etc.).

Students of the educational program take an active part in events at the regional, city, university, school, and interschool levels.

Every year, students take prizes in such creative contests and competitions as:

  • review-competition "Talent of first-year students";
  • contest "Miss VKGTU" and "Mr. VKGTU";
  • viewing competition "Student Spring", city and regional festivals "Student Spring";
  • Republican festival "I believe in youth!"

Students and teachers of the School of Information Technologies and Intellectual Systems are regular participants and winners of university competitions in various sports (rector's cup, Spartakiad, "Skiing").
