The Sustainable Development Office is a structural unit of D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University (EKTU).
The main goal of the office is to implement and promote the principles of sustainable development in the university’s academic and administrative activities, as well as to create conditions for integrating environmental, social, and economic aspects of sustainability at all levels of the university’s operations.
Key Areas of Activity of the Sustainable Development Office:
- Development and implementation of the university's sustainable development strategies and programs;
- Integration of principles for the rational use of natural resources and minimization of environmental impact into the educational process and research activities;
- Assessment and management of the university’s environmental and social risks;
- Support and coordination of initiatives aimed at enhancing social responsibility and sustainability among students and university staff;
- Organizing activities to raise awareness about sustainable development principles within the university community;
- Development and implementation of projects to reduce the university’s carbon footprint and promote environmental culture;
- Participation in national and international sustainability rankings and certifications;
- Collaboration with governmental and private organizations on sustainability and environmental issues;
- Monitoring and analyzing the impact of the university’s activities on the environment and local communities;
- Improvement of the university’s regulatory framework in the field of sustainable development.
The primary mission of the Sustainable Development Office is to ensure the integration of sustainability principles into the university’s strategic and operational processes, contributing to the long-term preservation of resources and the development of innovative approaches to addressing pressing environmental and social challenges.
