Modern urban space in Kazakhstan (history of formation, current trends and prospects)

Relevance:

The project is aimed at studying the history of the formation of the urban space of sovereign Kazakhstan, determining the main trends of its current socio-demographic and socio-cultural state, modeling the prospects for its further development. In less than a hundred years, Kazakhs have gone from traditional nomadism to the implementation of the "urban project" as a strategic priority. The result of the accelerated movement from "tradition" to "modernity" was the formation of a wide range of civilizational preferences that coexist in a modern Kazakh city. The main content of the project is to identify social, economic, cultural opportunities for interaction between traditional values and social innovations characteristic of various groups of the Kazakh population of a modern city.

The purpose of the project:

to study the history of the formation of the urban space of sovereign Kazakhstan, to determine the main trends of its current socio-demographic and socio-cultural state and to model the prospects for its further development.

Expected results:

  1. study of mechanisms and vectors of interaction of various socio-demographic and socio-cultural groups of Kazakh youth in urban space;
  2. conducting a sociological study "Value attitudes and social practices of Kazakh youth (on the example of the East Kazakhstan region)" with the publication of an analytical report;
  3. publication of one article for publication in a peer-reviewed foreign and/or domestic publication with a non-zero impact factor (recommended by COXON).
  4. study of the stages of formation of modern urban space in Kazakhstan;
  5. source and historiographical review of the urbanization of the Kazakh population based on the results of scientific trips; identification of current trends in the processes of urbanization of Kazakhstan.
  6. publication of one article in a peer-reviewed scientific publication included in the 1-4 quartile in the Web of Science database and/or included in the Arts and Humanities Citation Index database, and/or having a CiteScore percentile in the Scopus database of at least 35 (thirty-five) or being in print in these publications.
  7. designing a predictive model of values and social practices of Kazakh youth;
  8. presentation and discussion of the preliminary results of the project at international conferences and/or other scientific events.
  9. organization and holding of the international scientific and methodological webinar "Prospects for the development of Kazakhstan: mono-ethnicity and multiculturalism"; presentation of the final results of the project;
  10. preparation and submission of the project report.

Achieved results:

In accordance with the project's work schedule, all research tasks were implemented and the following results were achieved:

  1. The article "Formation of the urban Kazakh population of East Kazakhstan in the 1920s-80s (according to the All-Union population censuses of 1926, 1939, 1959, 1970, 1979 and 1989) was published in the journal "Bulletin of KazNPU", the series "Historical and socio-political sciences" (recommended by COXON),
  2. A sociological study "Value attitudes and social practices of Kazakh youth (on the example of the East Kazakhstan region)" was prepared and conducted. The conducted research made it possible to identify the mechanisms and vectors of interaction of various socio-demographic and socio-cultural groups of Kazakh youth in the urban space. The data of the sociological research are reliable scientific results published in analytical reports.
  3. Actual and predictive models of values and social practices of urban Kazakh youth have been developed. The current model reflects the dominants of consciousness characteristic of each study group separately and in comparison with each other. The forecast model is based on statistical data of the Department of Statistics of the East Kazakhstan Region on the state of the sex and age structure of the population of the region, reflecting the dynamics of the ratio of urban and rural population and the hypothesis that in the medium term (5-7 years), the main influence on the values and social practices of youth in cities will have a specific social group – Kazakh youth, whose childhood and adolescence (up to 17 years) were spent in rural areas, but during the years of study and work in an urbanized environment, there was a significant adaptation. Such social groups have been called the "one and a half generation" (one-Point-Five/ 1.5 generation / 1.5 G). The results are presented in the publication: "A model of values and social practices of Kazakh urban youth (on the example of East Kazakhstan region)". An album with infographics. - Ust-Kamenogorsk: Media Alliance Publishing House, 2021. – 25 p.
  4. The stages of formation of the modern urban space of Kazakhstan are studied, a source and historiographical overview of the urbanization of the Kazakh population is given, current trends of urbanization are revealed. The results of this work are reflected in the article "Urban population of modern Kazakhstan: features of formation and development", published in the peer-reviewed scientific publication Voprosy istorii, 2021. -№10 (№2). – PP. 61-73 (ART AND HUMANITIES). DOI: 10.31166/VoprosyIstorii202110Statyi53
  5. The results of the project are presented at the XIX and XIX International Scientific and Practical Conferences "Ethnodemographic processes in Kazakhstan and adjacent territories" organized and conducted by the project executors, which took place on December 4, 2020 and October 21-22, 2021. Collections of scientific papers of conferences have been published. 6. The results of the project implementation on May 27, 2021 were presented at the international scientific and methodological webinar "Modern urban multicultural space: polyethnicity and mono-ethnicity".
