Building Constructions
Description: The discipline examines the principles of calculation of basic load-bearing building structures: reinforced concrete, metal, steel reinforced concrete, stone and wood; physical and mechanical properties of structural materials; classification and characteristics of the loads acting on the structure. Students acquire skills in determining design situations and the collection of loads to calculate the structures of buildings and structures.

Goal
- Acquisition of theoretical and practical knowledge of the current state of the calculation of load-bearing building structures made of metal, reinforced concrete, wood and artificial stone; about the main design situations and external influences
Objective
- To acquaint students with the system of technical regulation in the Republic of Kazakhstan
- To equip students with a system of knowledge of modern methods of calculation of reinforced concrete, steel reinforced concrete, metal, wood and stone structures
- Teach how to determine design situations and collect loads on building structures
Learning outcome: knowledge and understanding
- Know the materials used for steel structures, the basic calculation requirements and design principles.
Learning outcome: applying knowledge and understanding
- Understand standard methods of calculation of elements and units of building structures, perform design work and draw up design and technological documentation according to standards.
- Know and be able to determine and calculate the loads and effects acting on the building structures.
Learning outcome: communicative abilities
- be able to work in a team, solve production problems, take responsibility for solving production problems
Learning outcome: learning skills or learning abilities
- Have the skills to acquire new knowledge necessary for daily professional activities and continuing education
Teaching methods
Traditional technologies are provided for teaching: classroom instruction and independent work of students. The lecture course is presented in multimedia form. Motivational speech is used when presenting lecture material at the beginning and at the end of the lecture. Text, audio and video information, graphs, tables, etc. are used in the lecture-presentation and practical classes.
Assessment of the student's knowledge
Teacher oversees various tasks related to ongoing assessment and determines students' current performance twice during each academic period. Ratings 1 and 2 are formulated based on the outcomes of this ongoing assessment. The student's learning achievements are assessed using a 100-point scale, and the final grades P1 and P2 are calculated as the average of their ongoing performance evaluations. The teacher evaluates the student's work throughout the academic period in alignment with the assignment submission schedule for the discipline. The assessment system may incorporate a mix of written and oral, group and individual formats.

Evaluation form
The student's final grade in the course is calculated on a 100 point grading scale, it includes:
- 40% of the examination result;
- 60% of current control result.
The final grade is calculated by the formula:
FG = 0,6 | MT1+MT2 | +0,4E |
2 |
Where Midterm 1, Midterm 2are digital equivalents of the grades of Midterm 1 and 2;
E is a digital equivalent of the exam grade.
