1) Water conservation program and implementation

ЕKTU has developed several programs for water conservation:

  • Rainwater collection.
  • Collection of runoff from Parking.
  • Program for installing water-saving devices.
  • Program for using treated water.

All programs contribute to saving water, reducing waste water and sludge. Data on water consumption is tracked in the e-monitoring system by time periods and university facilities.

2) Water recycling program implementation

Water recycling program includes:

  • Scheme for collecting trays in the Parking lot in front of the main building and the location of treatment facilities.
  • Scheme of surface wastewater treatment for irrigation.
  • General view of the combined tank-oil catcher.

3) Water efficient appliances usage

Total Percentage water efficient appliances 100%.

  • Using washbasins with sensors to turn on water – water flows from the tap only when people substitute his hands.
  • Using leak sensors under sinks – when a leak is detected, the automatic system blocks the water.
  • Use of modern plumbing with water saving in mind.
  • The use of aerators on faucets to reduce water consumption.
  • Using flush tank with dual-mode mechanism for flushing toilets.

4) Consumption of treated water

To save water, three types of irrigation have been introduced: sweating, sprinkling, drip. Sweating irrigation consists in the formation of liquid droplets on the surface of the pipe due to the temperature difference and their absorption into the soil. The pipe is located underground.

5) Control of water pollution in the campus area

The Environmental Codex prohibits the discharge of untreated wastewater into water bodies.

For 6 out of 7 university facilities located in the city:

  • The campus sewer system is connected to the urban sewerage system.
  • Sewage is directed to urban wastewater treatment plants, where they undergo mechanical and biological treatment.
  • Wastewater and river monitoring is carried out by the services of the city water utility.

In the SEK "Prostor" wastewater treatment is carried out in a septic tank. The discharge of wastewater into the Bukhtarma reservoir is prohibited. The University monitors the quality of groundwater. The campus water supply is carried out from underground wells. All sanitary breaks and water protection strips are observed.

The Center of Competence and Technology Transfer in the field of water management and water use monitors the water of the Bukhtarma reservoir.
