An international research and methodological webinar, "Sociocultural portraits of generations as a tool for scientific analysis" was held on March 26 as part of the implementation of the research grant of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan "Kazakhs as a demographic potential: retrospectives and development prospects" (AP1967689). The International Research Center "Digital Social Research" organised the webinar and invited scholars from Russia and Kyrgyzstan to participate. Yulia Lysenko, PhD of Historical Sciences, Head of the Department of Oriental Studies at Altai State University (Barnaul, Russian Federation) and Zhoomart Sulaimanov, PhD of Philosophical Sciences, Associate Professor at Osh State University (Osh, Kyrgyzstan), delivered their welcoming speeches.

During the webinar, the reports presented the results of constructing social portraits. The “DSR” Team used this method to identify the social dynamics characteristic of Kazakhs born in 1950-1960 and 1970-1980. The main focus is on the characteristics and changes that occurred in such processes as reproductive behavior and attitudes towards large families, education and professional employment, and the influence of state policy and traditions on the sociocultural views of Kazakhs.

Constructing sociocultural portraits of certain groups (in this case, generations) is a fairly new research tool in humanities in Kazakhstan.

The results of the anamnestic sociological study, in the form of sociocultural portraits of generations, are available on the Center's page: /dsr/publications/expertassessments/sociokulturnye-portrety-pokolenii-kazahi-19501960-i-19701980-gg.aspx.
