Project summary:

In today's world, lithium is a rapidly growing sector. It is used in the production of lithium-ion batteries, which are widely used in smartphones, laptops, vehicles, etc. Lithium consumption in the world will increase rapidly in the coming years. But, like all other resources, rich lithium deposits can be depleted quickly enough. Thus, there is a trend towards the discovery of new and detailed additional exploration of already known rare metal deposits.

The main purpose of the work is to identify rare-metal pegmatite deposits (ore occurrences) similar to the known industrial sites of Central Kalba (Bakenoye, Yubileinoye, Belaya Gora, etc.) and to assess the prospects of the North-Western Kalba area and adjacent areas of Rudny Altai for rare-metal mineralization associated with granite domes in a blind spot.

Rare-metal mineralization of the Rudno-Altai zone is represented by single small deposits and manifestations. Historically, this area was studied in detail for polymetallic mineralization, and rare metals were considered mainly as associated components or were not considered at all. Significant contents of rare metals are found in the gold-polymetallic type of deposits. According to the geological structure, the presence of granite massifs, tectonic faults, Rudny Altai is a promising area for the discovery of rare metal mineralization.

The region of North-Western Kalba, considered for a long time to be poorly promising, has attracted the attention of researchers since the late 1980s in connection with the discovery of the Kvartsevoe deposit of rare-metal pegmatites, the Aktobe ore field, the Kovalevskoye, Alypkel, Kaindinskoye, Malo-Kaindinskoye and other areas. The works of past years were formed mainly on the study of exposed areas, which make up only an insignificant part of this territory.

The project is focused on clarifying the geological structure of promising areas of the North-Western Kalba and adjacent areas of Rudny Altai, building petrogenetic models for the formation of rare-metal mineralization and comparing them with geological models of deposits of the Central Kalbinsk rare-metal region.

Goal:

Identification of rare-metal pegmatite deposits (ore occurrences) and assessment of the prospects of the North-Western Kalba area and adjacent areas of Rudny Altai) for rare-metal mineralization, based on a comparison with the geological model of the formation of known industrial rare-metal objects of the Central Kalba (Bakenny, Yubileinoye, Belaya Gora, etc.).

  • Field revision work was carried out to survey the work sites (North-Western Kalba area: Malo-Kaindinskoye, Kaindinskoye, Novo-Kaindinskoye, Kvartsevoe, etc.).
  • The most promising areas for further comparison have been identified.
