AI Sana Project at EKTU

D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University is successfully implementing the AI Sana project — a large-scale national initiative aimed at creating an ecosystem for accelerating AI-based projects within Kazakhstani universities.

Learning outcomes

During the initial phase of the project, basic AI skills were provided to all students.
As of June 4, 2025, all 5,230 students of EKTU have completed AI-related training programs — achieving 100% coverage. This includes:

  • 1,462 first-year students completed the 6-credit course “Fundamentals of Artificial Intelligence,” integrated into the university’s core curriculum.
  • 3,768 senior students (2nd–4th year) completed certified online AI courses recommended by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan:

Huawei 977 students

Astana Hub 2654 students

Coursera 137 students

AI Agents in Action: Transforming the University Ecosystem

Beyond the educational component, EKTU is actively introducing AI-based intelligent agents to automate key processes and build the foundation for a smart campus. Below are the university’s major achievements in this area:

Smart Proctoring: Behavioral Analysis with AI

In Q2 2025, the university upgraded its online proctoring system. A new module applies computer vision technologies to detect anomalous behavior during exams — including movement, gaze direction, and interaction with the environment — to enhance academic integrity and assessment accuracy.

In development

EKTU AI Talapker – Smart Admission Navigator

By Q4 2025, EKTU will launch EKTU AI Talapker, a digital assistant designed to help prospective students select study programs, calculate competitive scores, and receive personalized guidance on career paths (first version t.me/testbotAItalapker_bot).

In development

AI Analyst – Intelligent Data Processing

Launched in Q2 2025, this AI-powered assistant processes statistical data from the university’s educational portal. It automatically identifies trends, detects anomalies, and generates visualized reports to support decision-making by university management.

EKTU Virtual Museum

By the end of 2025, EKTU will unveil an innovative Virtual Museum, allowing users to explore digitally reconstructed historical landmarks of East Kazakhstan. A 3D model of the Akbaur grotto (Early Bronze Age) has already been created using photogrammetry and advanced visualization techniques to restore faded mineral-based rock art.
