7M07201 - Metallurgy

The field of professional activity of masters in the field of training 7M07201 «Metallurgy» includes sections of science and technology, containing a set of tools, methods and methods of human activity aimed at creating competitive products of non-ferrous metallurgy; powder metallurgy, composite materials and coatings, advanced technologies for processing of mineral raw materials and based on the use of modern methods and means of design, mathematical and computer modeling of technological processes.

Objects of professional activity of the graduate:

  • industrial enterprises of ferrous and non-ferrous metallurgy;
  • the enterprises of mining industry;
  • design, research and development organizations, factory laboratories;
  • firms of different forms of ownership.

Master of science in field training 7М07201 «Metallurgy» prepares for the following types of professional activity:

  • industrial-technological;
  • organizational and managerial;
  • settlement and design.

As a result of the development of this OP master's degree the graduate should form the following competencies:

a) General cultural:

  •  it is to possess culture of thinking, ability to generalize, analysis, information perception, goal setting and choice of ways of its achievement;
  • be able to logically correct, reasoned and clearly build oral and written speech;
  • to be able to use regulatory legal documents in their activities;
  • to be able to critically assess their strengths and weaknesses, to identify ways and means to develop strengths and weaknesses;
  • to be aware of the social significance of their future profession, have a high motivation to perform professional activities;
  • the ability to understand the essence and importance of information in the development of modern information society, to understand the dangers and threats arising in this process, to comply with the basic requirements of information security, including the protection of state secrets;
  • possess the basic methods, methods and means of obtaining, storing, processing information;

  • the ability to critically rethink the experience gained, change the type and nature of their professional activities, if necessary;

  • be able to choose and confidently apply in practice the appropriate methods of theoretical and technological calculations of processes and equipment of metallurgical production;
  • have an idea of physical and chemical bases, methods of processing and control of metallurgical products;
  • possess new information technologies, including computer methods of search, collection, storage and processing of information;
  • to be able to contribute to the prosperity of society and to take a leading position in the fields of development of metallurgical production and development of new technologies of mining and metallurgical direction;

General professional:

organizational and management activities:

  • to be able to apply knowledge about the main objects, methods and principles of the organization of metallurgical production;

  • able to participate in the design of metallurgical units and production;
  • able to use regulatory documents that determine the quality of the design of metallurgical facilities.

Master's degree objectives:

  • Training of highly qualified specialists of the applied direction to production activity at the industrial enterprises, within implementation of the State program of industrial and innovative development of the Republic of Kazakhstan for 2015-2019 approved by the decree of the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan of August 1, 2014 No. 874.
  • Preparation of graduates for design and research activities, ready to apply standard methods of calculation of technological processes, to carry out design work and draw up design and technological documentation according to standards, specifications.
  • Preparation of graduates for organizational and managerial activities, owning the forms and methods of work with staff, able to manage groups of employees, analyze existing forms of management organization, simulate management processes, develop and justify proposals for their improvement.
  • Training of graduates ready for self-development, able to integrate knowledge, cope with difficulties and make judgments on the basis of incomplete or limited information, taking into account the ethical and social responsibility for the application of these judgments and knowledge.

For the implementation of educational programs, new methods of inverted learning at the University (principles and technologies of modern teaching) have been introduced. A multilingual staff training program is being implemented in three languages: Kazakh, Russian and English.

The Department successfully employs highly qualified teachers with academic degrees and titles, as well as experienced production workers, which allow our graduates to become competitive specialists in their professional activities. At various times, scientists from Japan, great Britain, Germany, Russia, Ukraine and Poland conducted classes for students, master classes and seminars.

On April 7-8, 2022, the VIII International Scientific and Technical Conference of students, undergraduates and young scientists "Creativity of young people for innovative development of Kazakhstan" was held at D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University, dedicated to the 100th anniversary of the first rector Serikbayev D.M. and the 100th anniversary of the second rector Sidorov A.K.

The results of master's studies are published in Kazakhstani and foreign scientific journals, including those recommended by the Committee for Control in the Sphere of Education and Science of the Ministry of Education and Science of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

Internship of undergraduates

During their master's studies, undergraduates have the opportunity to go for an internship both inside Kazakhstan and in foreign countries (Spain, Poland, China, Austria, Greece, Turkey, etc.)

Master's double degree program in metallurgy

Master's program of double diploma in metallurgy 7M07201 at Brandenburg Technical University Cottbus Senftenberg (BTU Cottbus Senftenberg https://www.b-tu.de/leichtbau-werkstofftechnologie-ms), which allows you to simultaneously study at East Kazakhstan Technical University and German university.

Under this program it is possible to receive education on the agreed curriculum, to carry out scientific work on high-tech and modern equipment of BTU, to participate in various projects and internship programs, etc. opens the way to opportunities.

After successful defense of master's thesis you can continue your studies in doctoral studies or get a job at the leading enterprises of Kazakhstan and Germany.

Brandenburg University of Technology Cottbus-Senftenberg (BTU) is one of the top ten technical universities in Germany.

In September 2024, the Kazakh-German Institute was opened on the basis of our university.

KNI is a joint project of D. Serikbayev EKTU and the Kazakh-German University. On the basis of the KNI, joint scientific projects and research in various fields will be implemented, modern high-tech laboratories and research centers will operate, which will focus on a wide range of relevant research.   On the basis of these laboratories, targeted training of scientific personnel with the necessary competencies will be carried out, which allow generating new knowledge and technical solutions, creating innovative developments for their implementation at metallurgical enterprises
