Goal
  • The purpose of teaching the discipline "Winter maintenance of highways" is the formation of professional training of students in the field of maintenance of highways in winter.
Objective
  • To know the basics of the theory of blizzards, methods of designing roads to reduce snow-bearing capacity, ways to protect against snow drifts and avalanches, methods of clearing roads from snow, the basics of combating slipperiness and ice. To familiarize with the organization and economics of winter maintenance of highways.
Learning outcome: knowledge and understanding
  • - knowledge of the main provisions, patterns, tasks of winter maintenance of transport infrastructure facilities and snow-fighting and anti-slip technology and understanding of the essence (main factors) of the implementation of such processes;
Learning outcome: applying knowledge and understanding
  • - application of knowledge and understanding in practice in the direct implementation of snow removal processes, be able to choose and apply optimal and effective methods and methods of organizational and technological support of transport infrastructure facilities and modern methods of winter maintenance of roads;
Learning outcome: formation of judgments
  • - formation of judgments – to have your own engineering and technical understanding of the need for knowledge on modern methods of snowmaking and combating the slipperiness of transport infrastructure facilities, which is used in the future when studying other disciplines of transport construction;
Learning outcome: communicative abilities
  • - the communicative abilities of future specialists should consist in mastering complex communication skills and abilities, etiquette in the field of communication, respect for decency, good manners, orientation within the framework of this profession;
Learning outcome: learning skills or learning abilities
  • - learning skills or learning abilities – acquisition of information, analysis of information, use of new teaching methods, expansion of professional activity and scope of use, gain an understanding of the purpose of this discipline and the need to expand this knowledge in this branch of winter maintenance of the highway.
Teaching methods

Traditional technologies are provided for teaching the discipline: classroom classes and independent work of students. The lecture course is presented in multimedia form. When presenting the lecture material at the beginning and at the end of the lecture, motivational speech is used. The lecture-presentation uses text, audio and video information, graphs, tables, etc. For independent work, students are offered topics.

Assessment of the student's knowledge

Teacher oversees various tasks related to ongoing assessment and determines students' current performance twice during each academic period. Ratings 1 and 2 are formulated based on the outcomes of this ongoing assessment. The student's learning achievements are assessed using a 100-point scale, and the final grades P1 and P2 are calculated as the average of their ongoing performance evaluations. The teacher evaluates the student's work throughout the academic period in alignment with the assignment submission schedule for the discipline. The assessment system may incorporate a mix of written and oral, group and individual formats.

Evaluation form

The student's final grade in the course is calculated on a 100 point grading scale, it includes:

  • 40% of the examination result;
  • 60% of current control result.

The final grade is calculated by the formula:

FG = 0,6 MT1+MT2 +0,4E
2

Where Midterm 1, Midterm 2are digital equivalents of the grades of Midterm 1 and 2;

E is a digital equivalent of the exam grade.
