On the eve of the holidays on May 6 and 7, 2024, the First Youth Climate Talks Dialogue was held at the EKTU. The event was organized by the public foundation "Water Partnership of Kazakhstan" in partnership with the representative office of the F. Ebert Foundation in Kazakhstan and the facilitation company Perspectivity (Kingdom of the Netherlands).
The Water Partnership of Kazakhstan plays a key role in the campaign to raise awareness of the basic principles of integrated water resources management among politicians, water managers and water management organizations, public organizations dealing with water issues. The Public Fund was represented by the project coordinator Mukhtar Amanbaiuly.
The Friedrich Ebert Foundation is an international analytical center and center for international cooperation, engaged in educational work to strengthen civil society. He was represented by Medet Suleimen.
The Perspectivity facilitation company develops and encourages multi-stakeholder dialogue processes that use collective wisdom for the common good. In her work, she brings together people with different knowledge, interests and views to find common ground for learning, innovation and transformation.
Facilitation is the organization of effective communication between the participants of a meeting or project. It helps: to set clear and measurable goals of the meeting, to define the roles of participants, to choose the appropriate tools to achieve goals, to create an atmosphere of trust and respect in the group, to involve and inspire all participants in the discussion as much as possible. One of the co-organizers of the dialogue was Sherkhan Serzhan, an expert on water resources.
Olga Petrova, Senior Researcher at the Center of Competence of Environmental Protection and Life Safety, joined the organization of the event from EKTU.
The purpose of the first youth dialogue Climate Talks is to inform young people about the problems of climate change.
On the first day, the event included the following topics:
- Youth as an actor in solving climate problems.
- Dialogue with the audience on the topic: "What is climate?"
- Interactive session with the audience on the topic: "The impact of climate change on water resources in Kazakhstan"
- Interactive game Climate Fresk.
The first day was spent in active discussions of the ideas that were worked out by the participants during the tasks.
The second day was devoted to storytelling and writing of participants' stories on the ecology of the region and climate change. In the future, the stories of the participants will be published in the Kazakhstan collection of stories.
The event was attended by 2nd year students of the educational program "Life safety and environmental protection" and 3rd and 4th year students of the specialty "Water Resources". Not everyone was able to reach the finish line and complete the tasks. As a result of the event, the most active students were awarded certificates.
The interactive game Climate Fresk was provided for training in the educational program "Life safety and environmental protection".
