A group of EKTU PhD students and faculty staff successfully completed the Scientific Writing Bootcamp Workshop "Research Writing in English " which is designed for participants who feel prepared to write about their research in English without a translator, but who might need other types of help; have an idea for a research paper, project, proposal but haven't started writing it yet; want to learn about the structure of scientific research papers in English and style, conventions and grammar for research writing in English. The Bootcamp consisted of 5 two-hour meetings featuring mini lessons on style, conventions, and grammar; training in forming and maintaining writing groups to support and develop participants' writing process. Participants developed a piece of scientific writing in English, engaged in peer review, and participated in writing groups.
The Scientific writing Bootcamp was designed and instructed by lectureres from English language institute, University of Delaware, USA in the frame of U.S.-Kazakhstan University Partnerships Grants Program funded by the U.S. Mission to Kazakhstan to build capacity for substantive international engagement between higher education institutions in the United States and Kazakhstan. The goal of the program is to support trilingual education policy and to provide opportunities for EKTU to adapt and modernize its curriculum in English as a foreign language and English in STEM.
