On March 12, 2025, as part of the international Erasmus+ ERASMUS-EDU-2023-CBHE project "Developing Innovative Curricula and Modules in Circular Economy and Sustainable Development - CirculEC", a thematic training seminar was held at the University of Naples Federico II (Italy), dedicated to the topic "Territorial and Urban Components of Competitiveness."
Participants, including representatives from D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University - the grant holder and coordinator of the CirculEC project - were introduced to advanced European approaches to analyzing the competitiveness of regions and cities. Leading professors from the University of Naples Federico II presented both theoretical foundations and applied methods for assessing urban and regional competitiveness, placing a strong emphasis on sustainability and the integration of innovation into territorial planning systems.
A key component of the seminar was the practical session "Teaching Methodologies: A Scenario Exploration Game." In team-based exercises, participants developed scenarios for the sustainable development of urban areas, proposing strategic planning solutions that considered environmental, social, and economic factors. The interactive format enabled participants to apply their knowledge to real-world urban challenges.
The seminar provided a valuable platform for knowledge exchange, the introduction of innovative teaching practices, and the strengthening of international cooperation in the field of sustainable development. EKTU continues to enhance its academic capacity, embrace contemporary educational approaches, and contribute to the formation of a sustainable urban environment for the future of Central Asia.
