On June 12, 2024, the results of the most cited ranking in the field of sustainable development, The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings, were published. THE Impact Rankings evaluate the initiatives of universities worldwide regarding the implementation of the 17 United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

For the 2024 ranking, THE assessed 2,152 universities from 125 countries.

In 2024, EKTU ranked in the top 1001-1500 among 1,963 universities globally and secured the 3rd position among universities in Kazakhstan within this range.

It is worth noting that the popularity of the ranking grows every year. In 2023, the ranking included 1,591 universities, and by 2024, this number increased to 1,963. Kazakhstan also strengthened its presence; while 15 universities were included in the ranking in 2023, this number rose to 26 in 2024. This undoubtedly increases competition among universities and serves as a basis for revising assessment policies. In 2023, for universities ranked in the top 1001-1500, the cumulative score ranged from 7.9 to 53.8 (out of 100%), whereas in 2024, it ranged from 45.0 to 58.7. EKTU's cumulative score in 2024 was 57.

It should be noted that EKTU annually provides data for assessment across all 17 SDGs, confirming the university's commitment to sustainable development goals.

In 2024, EKTU achieved its best results in the following SDGs:

  • SDG 5: Achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls
  • SDG 8: Promote sustained, inclusive, and sustainable economic growth, full and productive employment, and decent work for all
  • SDG 12: Ensure sustainable consumption and production patterns.

This is not the first sustainability ranking in which our university has participated; for several years in a row, EKTU has maintained its status as the "greenest" university, achieving high positions in the global Green Metric ranking. However, ranking position is not an end in itself. This evaluation highlights the effectiveness of EKTU's extensive work in environmental protection and sustainable development over the years and draws attention to ecological issues to further contribute to their resolution, both on campus and globally.

We congratulate our university on these significant achievements and wish for new heights in improving the well-being and protection of our planet!
