Modern universities interact with the local community actively; develop urban areas; engage in charitable activities through the support of the volunteer movement; achieve sustainable development goals initiating the implementation of new technologies and innovations.
Currently, the "University of the Third Age (U3A)" or "Silver Universities" is a relatively new phenomenon for Kazakh society. It necessary to note that the "Silver Universities" operate almost all over the world and this movement has been going on for several decades. The opening of such universities fully corresponds to the implementation of the life-long learning in a context of modern social transformations of education in Kazakhstan.
"Silver Universities" helps retired members and people of older generation to find a new meaning of life, express themselves and self-actualize, prolong life activity and expand the social circle. Undoubtedly, the main goal of the "Silver Universities" is the opportunity for older people to gain new knowledge and skills, gain self-confidence and actively participate in the public life of a city and a region.
