Description: The discipline studies the classification of aggressive environments as applied to buildings and structures of mining and metallurgical industry, secondary methods of protection, classification of protective coatings, preparation of surfaces for coating, rules for selecting materials, the technology of corrosion protection works in the conditions of existing industries and for new facilities.

Goal
  • To master methods of research of corrosive processes in various aggressive environments and practical application of corrosion-resistant materials and methods of protection of metals from corrosion in professional activities.
Objective
  • - studying the theoretical foundations of corrosion; - identify various factors for eliminating corrosion processes; - recognition of the stage of corrosion development in the environment.
Learning outcome: knowledge and understanding
  • The use of basic laws of chemistry to study the nature of corrosive processes and the development on this basis of optimal methods to prevent corrosive wear.

  • Ability to choose the best technological methods of corrosion protection and selection of coatings surface of building structures, depending on operating conditions and the degree of aggressiveness of the environment.

  • Knowledge of the effectiveness of compliance with corrosion protection technology to extend the period of trouble-free operation of building structures.

Teaching methods

classroom instruction and independent work of students. The lecture course is presented in multimedia form. Motivational speech is used when presenting lecture material at the beginning and at the end of the lecture. Text, audio and video information, graphs, tables, etc. are used in the lecture-presentation and practical classes.

Assessment of the student's knowledge

Teacher oversees various tasks related to ongoing assessment and determines students' current performance twice during each academic period. Ratings 1 and 2 are formulated based on the outcomes of this ongoing assessment. The student's learning achievements are assessed using a 100-point scale, and the final grades P1 and P2 are calculated as the average of their ongoing performance evaluations. The teacher evaluates the student's work throughout the academic period in alignment with the assignment submission schedule for the discipline. The assessment system may incorporate a mix of written and oral, group and individual formats.

  • 40% of the examination result;
  • 60% of current control result.
