Foreign language (professional)
Description: The course focuses on the formation of linguistic, discursive and socio-cultural competence of postgraduates, access to the culture of a target language, acquisition of professional speech skills, development of translation skills in a professional sphere. The course includes grammar review, preparation for writing assignments, reading, listening and speaking techniques.

Goal
- To mastering a wide range of linguistic means which allow expressing any thoughts on a large number of topics clearly, fluently and within the framework of an appropriate style (general, professional, everyday) without limiting the choice of the statement content.
Objective
- To develop skills in the application of phonological, lexical, grammatical knowledge of the English language in a specific volume program (linguistic competence);
- To form a system of knowledge and skills to apply the learned language tools in communication and professional activities for speaking at international conferences, writing articles in English with subsequent publication, conducting business negotiations with foreign partners (discursive competence);
- To develop intercultural communication abilities taking into account the national-cultural specificity of linguistic phenomena and the verbal behavior of native English speakers in comparison with the realities of the Republic of Kazakhstan (sociocultural competence).
Learning outcome: knowledge and understanding
- To know the features of the scientific style of written and oral texts and organization principles of scientific texts;
- To understand comprehensive complex texts on various subjects;;
- To master a wide range of linguistic means which allow expressing any thoughts on a large number of topics clearly, freely and within the framework of an appropriate style (general, professional, everyday) without limiting the choice of the statement content.

- The ability to use phonological, lexical, and grammatical phenomena of the English language in communicative and professional activities in a volume determined by program.

- The ability to use the learned linguistic means in communicative and professional activities for speaking at international conferences, writing articles in English with subsequent publication, conducting business negotiations with foreign partners
Learning outcome: communicative abilities
- The development of the ability for intercultural communication taking into account the national-cultural specifics of linguistic phenomena and the verbal behavior of native English speakers in comparison with the realities of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Learning outcome: learning skills or learning abilities
- The ability to create, edit, abstract and systematize all types of texts of scientific and public style;
- The ability to transform various types of texts (changing the style, genre, purpose of the text);
- The willingness to plan and conduct public speaking using oratory skills;
- The knowledge of communicative strategies and tactics, rhetorical, stylistic and linguistic norms and techniques adopted in different areas of communication, the ability to use them adequately in solving professional problems.
Teaching methods
The course consists of role-playing games, cases, presentations, dialogical and polylogical forms of work, discussions, analysis of practical tasks, quizzes, self-control of written tasks.
