Design of Residential and Public Buildings

Inozemtseva Tatiana Alexandrovna

The instructor profile

Description: The discipline is a continuation of the course "Architectural typology of buildings and structures" and is designed to deepen knowledge and develop professional skills in the field of architectural design, including objects in non-standard situations. Considers an integrated approach in the design of residential and public buildings in the context of interdisciplinary connections, as well as some aspects of the methodology of architectural design.

Goal
  • To prepare the student for the practical activities of the integrated solution of design problems. To acquaint with the features of the architectural design of objects in non-standard urban planning situations.
Objective
  • To reveal the design features of civil buildings in non-standard urban conditions
  • To reveal the specifics of three-dimensional compositional constructions of unique buildings of different types, their architectural and figurative solutions
  • Demonstrate the most typical architectural solutions of a certain type and type of buildings and structures
Learning outcome: knowledge and understanding
  • To make a classification of different types and varieties of public buildings
  • To determine the importance of interdisciplinary connections in the architectural design of residential and public buildings
Learning outcome: applying knowledge and understanding
  • Possess a comprehensive method of designing residential and public buildings
  • Develop conceptual designs of residential and public buildings
  • Possess a comprehensive method of designing residential and public buildings
Learning outcome: formation of judgments
  • Formulate conclusions as a result of the analysis of the object, the design solution
  • To explain interdisciplinary connections in architectural design
  • To build causal relationships in the design of civil buildings.
Learning outcome: communicative abilities
  • To state the preferences of modern trends in the architecture of residential and public buildings in a reasoned manner
Learning outcome: learning skills or learning abilities
  • To form the basis of research activities in the field of architecture of residential and public buildings.

technologies of educational and research activities

Communicative technologies (discussion, press conferences, brainstorming, academic debates, and other active forms and methods)

Assessment of the student's knowledge

Teacher oversees various tasks related to ongoing assessment and determines students' current performance twice during each academic period. Ratings 1 and 2 are formulated based on the outcomes of this ongoing assessment. The student's learning achievements are assessed using a 100-point scale, and the final grades P1 and P2 are calculated as the average of their ongoing performance evaluations. The teacher evaluates the student's work throughout the academic period in alignment with the assignment submission schedule for the discipline. The assessment system may incorporate a mix of written and oral, group and individual formats.

Period Type of task Total
1  rating Identification of interdisciplinary connections in the architectural design of residential buildings 0-100
Analysis of analogs of conceptual projects of residential buildings
Analysis of analogs of conceptual projects of public buildings

Evaluation form

The student's final grade in the course is calculated on a 100 point grading scale, it includes:

  • 40% of the examination result;
  • 60% of current control result.

The final grade is calculated by the formula:

FG = 0,6 MT1+MT2 +0,4E
2

Where Midterm 1, Midterm 2are digital equivalents of the grades of Midterm 1 and 2;

E is a digital equivalent of the exam grade.

Final alphabetical grade and its equivalent in points:

The letter grading system for students' academic achievements, corresponding to the numerical equivalent on a four-point scale:

Alphabetical grade Numerical value Points (%) Traditional grade
