Description: The discipline Foreign Language (Professional) implies the formation of linguistic, discursive and socio-cultural competence of undergraduates, introduction to the culture of the countries of the studied language, acquisition of skills of professional speech in a foreign language, development of skills of translation of texts on specialty.

Goal
  • The course aims at the systematic deepening of communicative competence within the framework of international standards of foreign language education on the basis of further development of skills and abilities of active language proficiency in professional, business and scientific activities.
Objective
  • -improving the skills of oral communication in a foreign language in monologic and dialogic form on the basis of the development of skills of argumentation and discussion within the framework of general scientific and scientific-professional problems; - further mastering of skills of reading foreign literature on economics and business, as well as socio-political orientation with subsequent processing and interpretation of the information received; - training in written explanation of scientific information in a foreign language in generally accepted basic forms; - study of linguistic characteristics of business speech genres, official and scientific functional styles in the profile of specialist training; - formation of skills of translation of texts from a foreign language into the language of instruction and from the language of instruction into a foreign language on the material of authentic texts of general scientific and professional orientation.

  • 1. Must know: - the structure and fundamentals of the construction of written and oral texts on professional topics; - functional characteristics of oral and written texts in the specialty, including scientific and technical nature.

When studying the discipline, both general and special communication skills are formed: - logical and structural integrity; - possession of the technical content of speech; - linguistic correctness of speech; - implementation of the communication plan; - proficiency in professional language; - reading and understanding authentic literature for special purposes; - conducting debates, discussions on certain topics.

  • 1. In addition to language training, the course has educational and educational purposes: - processing a large amount of foreign language information in order to collect material for writing a master's thesis or part of it in the language being studied; - expanding horizons; - fostering tolerance.

Assessment of the student's knowledge

Teacher oversees various tasks related to ongoing assessment and determines students' current performance twice during each academic period. Ratings 1 and 2 are formulated based on the outcomes of this ongoing assessment. The student's learning achievements are assessed using a 100-point scale, and the final grades P1 and P2 are calculated as the average of their ongoing performance evaluations. The teacher evaluates the student's work throughout the academic period in alignment with the assignment submission schedule for the discipline. The assessment system may incorporate a mix of written and oral, group and individual formats.

The student's final grade in the course is calculated on a 100 point grading scale, it includes:

  • 40% of the examination result;
  • 60% of current control result.
