D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University actively engages architecture students in developing projects aimed at improving the urban environment. These concepts focus on creating comfortable, functional, and environmentally sustainable public spaces that enhance the quality of life in Ust-Kamenogorsk and the East Kazakhstan Region.
Many student projects have been successfully implemented in practice. One of the most prominent examples is the "Oskemen" entrance monument, installed at the main entrances to the city. The architectural composition was designed by EKTU graduates as part of a city logo competition, after which the concept was adapted and implemented as the official entrance landmark. The design reflects the natural identity of East Kazakhstan: the stylized letter "O" incorporates the silhouette of mountain landscapes, one of the region's most recognizable features. The project has become a modern symbol of the city and a successful example of integrating university initiatives into urban development.
Student participation in such projects strengthens professional competencies, promotes collaboration between the University and local authorities, and supports sustainable approaches to architecture, urban planning, and regional development.
