Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University is implementing a large-scale research project, "Carbon neutrality through a comprehensive assessment of the territory". This initiative is a direct response to the Republic of Kazakhstan's strategic goal to achieve carbon neutrality by 2060, uniting the efforts of science, government, business, and society to build a sustainable future.

The project is focused on conducting an in-depth and comprehensive environmental analysis of the East Kazakhstan region. Through this research, the university addresses a complex set of tasks essential for the effective management of the regional carbon footprint.

Key Project Tasks:

  • Emissions Inventory: Conducting a complete and detailed inventory of all greenhouse gas (GHG) sources within the study area.
  • Methodology Development: Scientifically justifying and adapting a methodology to assess the contribution of various emission sources, tailored to the specific characteristics of the region.
  • Accounting for Natural Factors: Studying local atmospheric processes and evaluating the self-cleaning capacity of regional ecosystems.
  • Digital Modeling: Processing a vast amount of raw data and complex mathematical calculations to create a clear, accessible, and comprehensive territorial carbon footprint model.

The implementation of this project will provide a reliable scientific foundation for effective environmental management decisions. The developed model will assist industrial enterprises in optimizing their environmental strategies, enabling the region as a whole to take a confident step towards a "green" economy and sustainable development.
