Transforming Higher Education Systems for Sustainable Skills, Resilient Economies and High-Quality Green Jobs in Central Asia

GreenPath modernises higher education in Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan to accelerate the green transition by aligning curricula, skills development and labour-market mechanisms with low-carbon, circular and climate-resilient economies. Implemented by a consortium of EU and Central Asian partners, it tackles gaps in green skills provision, certification and recognition, and education–industry cooperation that prevent sustainability strategies from translating into employable competences and better jobs.

Using a “Triple Helix Plus” model that brings together universities, employers, public authorities and civil society, GreenPath positions HEIs as drivers of change through competence-based learning pathways embedded in degree programmes. The project will develop and deliver three interdisciplinary 5-ECTS modules at each of seven HEIs (21 modules total) on green technologies, renewable energy, circular economy and climate adaptation, and will establish permanent Green Hubs to coordinate employer engagement and provide 70+ internships in green sectors.

A digital-first approach—multilingual OER and 135 sustainability video lessons—widens access, while a cascade train-the-trainer scheme builds capacity by training 84 faculty members and engaging 350+ learners. Micro-credentials and practical short courses will enable fast, transparent skills recognition, supported by institutional embedding, quality assurance and diversified funding via professional services.

Advancing EU Global Gateway and the European Green Deal priorities, GreenPath will produce six policy briefs, train 270+ decision-makers and practitioners, and catalyse 35 green start-ups—supporting inclusive growth, social cohesion and a just transition with measurable skills outcomes.
