For three years, D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University has been an active participant in the nationwide environmental initiative "ReStart & 3.2.1.Start!". The project aims to promote the separate collection and recycling of plastic waste, as well as to systematically raise the environmental awareness of students, staff, and local communities.
Project Goals:
- Contributing to the development of a circular economy in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
- Fostering an eco-culture and habits of conscious consumption among the youth.
- Creating a sustainable, eco-friendly environment on the university campus.
Implementation and Tasks at EKTU:
The university acts as a driver of environmental change, promoting sustainable development through concrete practical steps:
- Development of eco-infrastructure: Organizing and maintaining dedicated collection points for PET plastic bottles on campus.
- Environmental education: Conducting information campaigns aimed at raising awareness about environmental protection and the importance of recycling.
- Large-scale community engagement: Uniting the efforts of students and faculty in environmental protection. The project involves about 5,000 participants, with an active core of 70 eco-ambassadors and volunteers who regularly initiate and coordinate events on campus.
Expected and Achieved Results:
- Responsible consumption: Promoting and embedding responsible municipal solid waste management practices.
- Reducing the environmental footprint: Significantly decreasing the amount of plastic sent to city landfills.
- Sustainable campus: Supporting the "Green Campus" concept and raising a new generation of professionals with a high level of environmental responsibility.
