D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University is advancing the Climate-Resilient Green Campus and Urban Green Infrastructure Pilot for Ust-Kamenogorsk, an initiative aimed at developing a climate-resilient university campus and integrating Nature-based Solutions into the urban environment.

The project focuses on creating comfortable, environmentally sustainable, and climate-adapted public spaces. Planned activities include the development of green infrastructure, planting of climate-resilient trees and shrubs, establishment of ecological demonstration zones, implementation of rainwater harvesting and sustainable irrigation systems, soil restoration, and composting and organic waste recycling.

Special attention is given to the use of digital technologies for monitoring microclimate conditions, vegetation health, and urban environmental quality. The University views the campus as a living laboratory where students, researchers, and faculty members can actively participate in practical solutions for climate adaptation and sustainable urban green infrastructure development.

The initiative contributes to reducing the urban heat island effect, improving air quality, enhancing biodiversity, and promoting a culture of environmental responsibility. It also supports the UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those related to sustainable cities, quality education, climate action, and ecosystem conservation.
