The problem of waste recycling comes to the fore, both in global practice and for each individual enterprise. D. Serikbayev EKTU has been implementing the Green Campus project since 2018, according to which waste recycling occupies one of the leading positions in the campus greening policy. In the process of carrying out activities on the territory of the university, various types of waste are generated, including organic. Waste such as paper waste according to the amendments to the Environmental Code of the Republic of Kazakhstan from January 1, 2019 will no longer be accepted at landfills for disposal. In addition, significant amounts of other organic waste, such as mown grass, foliage, sawdust, and canteen waste, are removed from the campus every year. Also, this problem has another ecological aspect, which is the depletion of soil fertility due to the annual removal of humus.
The location of this site is the territory behind the main building of the university. The area of the upper plot is 1400 m2 (0.14 ha), P = 185 m. The area of the lower plot is 1200 m2 (0.12 ha), P = 150 m.
To solve the problem of processing organic waste of the university as the simplest and least expensive method, the use of composting in combination with the use of vermiculture is proposed. The compost obtained during the processing of organic waste will be in demand annually during the landscaping of the main campus.
The project has advantages:
- reduction of waste volumes;
- implementation of the principles of green economy and sustainable development in the activities of the university;
- improvement of the environment, in particular green spaces on campus;
- creating a more comfortable environment for a person at the university.
