Analytical Research Laboratory

The laboratory is a structural unit of the «VERITAS» Center of Excellence for the development of technologies and nanotechnologies for producing new materials for various sectors of the economy, including mechanical engineering, the construction industry, chemical and processing industries, geology and mineral exploration, as well as other industrial sectors. It also conducts fundamental and applied scientific research in various fields such as mineralogy, materials science, chemistry, ecology, and others.

Objectives and Areas of Activity of the Laboratory

In accordance with the priority directions for the development of education and science in the Republic of Kazakhstan for the near future, the main objective of the laboratory is to carry out fundamental and applied research in the key area: «High technologies for the production of new materials based on the integrated utilization of resources from the mining and metallurgical industry».

The laboratory’s areas of activity also include:

  • conducting research and development (R&D) and experimental design work (EDW) in the field of materials science and nanotechnology;
  • scientific and technical cooperation with partners within the Republic of Kazakhstan and with international partners.

laboratory tasks

In accordance with its main objective and research directions, the laboratory has defined a set of practical tasks and functions, including:

  • in-depth study of mineral and technogenic raw materials;
  • development of scientific products and commercial technologies, including nanotechnologies;
  • advancement of scientific and technical cooperation with international partners, conducting joint research within international programs, and facilitating the exchange of scientists between the Republic of Kazakhstan and foreign countries;
  • conducting research within academic programs for faculty members, as well as for doctoral and master’s theses and undergraduate diploma projects;
  • carrying out research within the framework of government-funded projects;
  • performing research commissioned by industrial enterprises and organizations, research centers and institutes, as well as individual scientists under contractual agreements.

Types of R&D and Laboratory Analytical Studies Conducted at the Analytical Research Laboratory (ARL):

  • transmission electron microscopy with micro(nano)analysis (TEM);
  • scanning electron microscopy with microanalysis (SEM);
  • X-ray diffractometry (X-ray structural analysis) (XRD);
  • inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS);
  • microwave plasma atomic emission spectrometry (MP-AES);
  • X-ray fluorescence spectrometry (XRF);
  • spectrophotometry (SPM);
  • colorimetry ;
  • thermal treatment of materials.

To support these types of R&D activities, the ARL is equipped with a comprehensive range of sample preparation facilities and equipment.
