Club members, freshmen and guests Michał Bartosik, Sam Blond, Christian Pyerin, Joe Wilson visited Ak-baur last weekend. Ak-baur is a unique historical monument in the East of Kazakhstan; it is listed in the UNESCO heritage list. This is our Kazakh Stonehenge and it is located only 38 km from the city of Ust-Kamenogorsk. The place was a real surprise not only for foreigners but for local students too. One of the students says: “I live my whole life in the East Kazakhstan but only now I visit this place for the first time.”
We make a full day excursion guided by Galina Peteneva, a head of archeologic research department of Ak-Baur complex. Bakhtiyar Shokobaev, a Bolashak program alumna, helped with translation. Bakhtiyar is fluent in several languages, providing simultaneous interpretation; he easily switched from Russian and Kazakh - to English, French. For members of Soleil club Bakhtiyar is a wonderful example of polilingual person.
This meeting helped us to discover historic sacred monument and communicate in warm and informal environment.
Welcome to East Kazakhstan!
