On April 10, 2018, on the platform of the House of Friendship and the Center for Public Consent of the Staff of the Akim of the East Kazakhstan region, the city debate tournament on the topic "Smart cities" - reality in Kazakhstan" among students of universities of the city took place.

This event was conducted within the framework of implementation of the state program “Ruhani zhangyru” and in line of the trilingualism policy. Debate were conducted in Kazakh, Russian and English.

The event was participated by the staff of EKSTU named after D. Serikbayev. Senior lecturer of “The History of Kazakhstan and Socio-Political Disciplines” Department, G. Zhanabayeva, was the moderator of the debate tournament. Associate Professor of the Department of "The History of Kazakhstan and Socio-Political Disciplines", the leading teacher of humanitarian disciplines in multilingual groups, the head of the student club in English "Soleil", S.Ualiyeva; and the senior researcher of the "Center for Evaluation of Quality and Development of Educational Technologies" of EKSTU named after D. Serikbayev, M. Yusubaliyeva, were invited as judges.
