The career guidance roadshow organized by D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University (EKTU) successfully completed its large-scale tour across the southern regions of Kazakhstan, becoming one of the most dynamic and innovative educational initiatives of the year.
Throughout May 2026, a university team consisting of faculty members, engineers, staff, and students visited cities and districts in the Zhetysu, Almaty, Zhambyl, Turkistan, and Kyzylorda regions, as well as the city of Shymkent. Career guidance events were held at schools, educational centers, and public venues, bringing together approximately 2,000 high school students, teachers, and parents.
The primary goal of the project was to introduce prospective applicants to the opportunities offered by modern engineering education, including EKTU’s academic programs, international partnerships, student exchange opportunities, advanced research and innovation infrastructure, and admission requirements for the 2026 academic year.
The project was supported by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan and the Akimat of the East Kazakhstan Region, highlighting the national priority of developing engineering education, preparing highly qualified technical specialists, and encouraging young people to pursue engineering careers.
More than a series of career guidance events, the roadshow introduced a new, interactive approach to university outreach. For the first time, EKTU organized its recruitment campaign in a mobile interactive format, allowing students not only to learn about academic programs but also to experience modern engineering technologies firsthand.
One of the main attractions was the demonstration area of the Luban Workshop, an international engineering training center. Visitors explored Haval M6, GEELY Emgrand L, and Changan Deepal SL03 vehicles equipped with intelligent technologies and autonomous driving features. For many students, this was their first opportunity to see real-world engineering solutions that EKTU students study as part of their education.
The roadshow's practice-oriented approach distinguished it from traditional career guidance events. Participants gained insight into how engineering education is closely connected with industrial production, digital technologies, and emerging technological trends—an increasingly important perspective as demand grows for a new generation of highly skilled engineers.
As part of the project, EKTU also organized the "EKTU Quiz – 2026" intellectual competition. Winners received EKTU educational grants and special prizes, combining career guidance with teamwork, academic excellence, and support for talented young people.
Throughout the events, students showed strong interest in academic programs, international opportunities, student life, on-campus accommodation, career prospects, and employment opportunities after graduation. University representatives noted the growing enthusiasm among young people in southern Kazakhstan for engineering education and advanced technologies.
The university team also received an exceptionally warm welcome throughout the region. The openness, enthusiasm, and hospitality of students, teachers, and parents demonstrated the importance of such initiatives and reinforced the value of direct engagement between universities and prospective applicants.
The EKTU roadshow demonstrated that a modern university must be mobile, innovative, and accessible, while engineering education should be engaging, practical, and inspiring for the next generation.
The project marked an important step toward a new model of career guidance and once again confirmed D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University as one of Kazakhstan's leading technical universities, committed to educating the engineers of the future.
