The opening of the exhibition dedicated to the anniversary of Abay Kunanbayev was held at the at the I. Polzunov Altai State Technical University in Barnaul, Russia, in accordance with the Action Plan for the celebration of the 175th anniversary of the great poet, humanist, thinker Abay Kunanbaev and the Agreement on cooperation of historical departments of the EKSTU and I. Polzunov Altai State Technical University dated 21 February 2020.

The implementation of the clauses of the cooperation agreement was possible thanks to the support the administration of the EKSTU and the Department of History of Kazakhstan and Social and Political Development. The idea of holding the event was supported by the administration of the Altai State Technical University and the Department of History of the Fatherland.

The historical departments of technical universities held joint events in various formats - online conferences, summer schools, and also published results of their research in the online edition of the Council of Rectors of the Big Altai "Education and Science of the Big Altai" and collections of materials for scientific conferences.

The materials of the exhibition were placed in the AltSTU Culture Center, established in 1993 as a platform for exhibiting materials related to the history of culture of the region, city, and Altai State Technical University and preserving the glorious creative traditions of previous generations.

Kazakhstan exhibits supplemented the materials of the Scientific Library of the Russian university and the personal libraries of the teaching staff of the AltSTU.

The exhibition was opened by the director of the AltSTU Culture Center Evgenia Tsepennikova, presenting her presentation about Abay Kunanbayev.

After that, participants of the exhibition were given the opportunity to get acquainted with the work of the Nur Altai art collective in the city of Barnaul (Zharaima dance, Erke Salkym musical composition).

The event continued with an opening speech by the Head of the Department of History of the Fatherland of the Altai State Technical University Irina Nikulina and welcoming remarks by the Vice-Rector of the Altai State Technical University Andrei Svistula.

In his speech, a representative of the EKSTU Kansha Kalieva, Candidate of Historical Sciences of the Russian Federation and the Republic of Kazakhstan, associate professor of the Department of History of Kazakhstan and Social and Political Development noted: "2020 in Kazakhstan is the 175th anniversary of the great Kazakh figure, philosopher, poet, composer, founder of the Kazakh written literature - Abay. The works of the spiritual mentor are relevant today not only in Kazakhstan, but throughout the world, as his works teach wisdom, justice, and universal values."

According to the representative of the EKSTU, a feature of the exhibition was that, "we present the legacy of Great Abay in book form. Despite the widespread dissemination of the latest technology and the media, a book will always occupy an important place in human life. From childhood, it brings up the best qualities in a person, calls for goodness, and instills high moral principles."

As a gift to the Scientific Library of the I. Polzunov AltSTU, V.Y. Shishkov Altai Regional Scientific Library, the Center of the Kazakh language and Culture of the Altai State Pedagogical University, and the Altai Public Organization of National and Cultural Autonomy of Kazakhs, the D. Serikbayev EKSTU presented the "Words of Edification" by Abay and the works of E.I. Grigoryeva (1930-2012), the doctor of Philosophy, professor, Head of the International Club of Abay (EKSTU) - "Adam Bol", "Abay and the Alash Movement", "Prometheus of the Great Steppe", "Please: Listen to My Words. Popularly Popular Essays on the Political and Philosophical Views of Abay," as well as books about Kazakhstan Altai and materials about EKSTU.

The guests of the exhibition were presented with a film prepared by the EKSTU about the life and work of the thinker.

Students of the faculty of information technologies of the Altai State Technical University Torgaybekov Alikhan and Zhumakun Aybol, in turn, recited the verses of Abay.

Representatives of the partner university have prepared material on the creative interaction of Abay Kunanbaev and E. Mikhaelis, which was presented by the Head of the Department of History of the Fatherland Altai State Technical University I.N. Nikulin.

Representatives of the Altai State Pedagogical University and the V.Y. Shishkov Altai Regional Universal Scientific Library made congratulation speeches on the opening of the exhibition and words about the diversity of personality and talent of Abay, inlcuding the Deputy Director M.N. Potupchik, representative of the Altai Regional Public Organization of national-cultural autonomy of the Kazakhs and Doctor of Philosophy, professor of the M.Yu. Shishin AltGTU M. Bekmuratov.

After that, the exhibition participants got acquainted with the books of Abay from the book fund of the Scientific Library of the EKSTU, booklets with quotes about Abay and aphorisms from the "Words of Edification" and information about the achievements of the EKSTU as a flagship of technical education in East Kazakhstan.

Colleagues and students of the partner university and the Head of the Public Organization were noted with letters of thanks on behalf of the Rector of the EKSTU Zh. Shaimardanov for their active participation in the development of Kazakh-Russian cooperation in the field of higher education and science.

The exhibition works for three weeks and during this time, students, faculty and staff of the I.Polzunov AltSTU have the opportunity to get acquainted with the legacy of the great Abay and try to find answers to the pressing problems of modern society.
