During a working visit, President of the Republic of Kazakhstan Kassym-Jomart Tokayev visited D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University, where he got acquainted with the activities of the university and the training center "Workshop of Lu Ban" created on its basis.

The President was informed about the scientific and innovative ecosystem of the higher education institution. According to the Chairman of the Board, Rector Saule Rakhmetullina, last year the Smart engineering Competence Center was established at the university. The engineering centre's goal is to develop import-substituting technologies in mechanical engineering and the mining and metallurgical complex.

The Head of state was told about plans to create a technology park in the field of Smart and Medical Engineering, allowing young people to engage in innovative projects. Currently, technologies have been developed for 40 types of medical implants, some of which are undergoing clinical trials.

Together with the Kazakh-German University, it is planned to open an institute of science and technology in the field of metallurgy and mining.

The President was provided with information about the "Lu Ban Workshop", which consists of two laboratories - "Innovative Car designs" and "SMART Car Technologies". The uniqueness of the Center lies in the possibility for students to gain practical skills and conduct simulation tests of automotive systems. Special attention is paid to the study of new technologies for the maintenance and diagnostics of electric and hybrid vehicles.

More than 6,000 students study at the university, their training is conducted in close cooperation with enterprises, thanks to this, the employment rate of 96% is the first place in the Atameken rating. Last year, VKTU entered the world rankings of QS WUR and Times Higher Education.

The opening of the Lu Ban Workshop in Kazakhstan was initiated by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev and President Xi Jinping in May 2023 in Xi'an at the Central Asia-China Summit. In December 2023, with the close mutual cooperation of the two universities, the "Lu Ban Workshop" was opened. Thanks to the successful work, the Chinese government supported the opening of 2 more such workshops in Kazakhstan.

The name of the great master and inventor of China, Lu Ban, became a symbol of the wisdom of workers in ancient China. Lu Ban is a semi-mythical historical hero, carpenter, builder, architect, according to legend, the inventor of many primitive tools and devices used to this day.

Today, within the framework of the Lu Ban Workshop project, students of the EKTU are being trained in the educational programs "Transport, transport equipment and Technologies", "Organization of transportation, traffic and operation of transport" using the teaching method of the innovative Engineering Practice Engineering Practice Innovation Project (EPIP).

To implement the project, 15 teachers of the EKTU in the period from August 1 to August 25, 2023 were trained at the Tianjin Professional Institute in Tianjin (China).

In addition, as part of the opening of the workshop, together with VKTU and the Tianjin Professional Institute, it is planned to create a "Kazakhstan Engineering Center for the application and improvement of automotive intelligent technologies."

It is worth noting that one of the goals of the university is to train highly qualified technical and engineering personnel for the automotive industry of Kazakhstan on the basis of the Lu Ban Workshop
