On October 20, 2023 in Astana took place an important scientific and public event, an international conference "Family - the basis of sustainable demographic development of Kazakhstan". This event became a place for hot discussions of the actual challenges that face the demographic development of Kazakhstan. The range of problems of the conference is very wide starting from demographic forecasts and their political orientation, problems of fertility and population aging, family values to gender studies and the level of demographic literacy.
The major government officials and representatives of international structures attended the conference, namely Aida Balayeva, Chairperson of the National Commission on Women's Affairs and Family and Demographic Policy under the President of the Republic of Kazakhsta, Minister of Culture and Information of the Republic of Kazakhstan; Tamara Duisenova, Deputy Prime Minister of the Republic of Kazakhstan; Raquel Lagunas, Global Director of the United Nations Development Program on Gender Equality; Dina Amrisheva, Acting Head of UN Women Office in Kazakhstan.
Plenary reports on the main topics of the conference were delivered by Michael Herman, Senior Advisor on Economics and Demography of the UN Foundation, Agnes Hornung, State Secretary for Family Affairs of the Ministry of Culture and Innovation (Hungary), Gani Beisembayev, Minister of Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Arken Utenov, Deputy Chairman of the Agency for Strategic Planning and Reforms of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Beibut Esenbaev, Vice Minister of Health of the Republic of Kazakhstan, Zvira Esenbaeva, Deputy Mayor (Akim) of Mangistau region, Kuanysh Asylov , First Deputy Mayor (Akim) of Shymkent city, Svetlana Zhakupova, Minister of Labor and Social Protection of Population of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
Among the participants of the conference were the researchers of the ISRC "DSR" Alexander Alekseenko, Doctor of Historical Sciences, leading researcher of the center, Zhanna Aubakirova, Candidate of Historical Sciences, head of the center, Nelly Krasnobayeva, chief researcher of the center, as well as Tamerlan Omirzak, teacher of the Department of History of Kazakhstan and socio-political courses.
Alexander Nikolaevich Alekseenko, a leading demographer in Kazakhstan, made a report on "Becoming a sovereign demographic system of the Republic of Kazakhstan: challenges and prospects". His proposed conceptual approach to the definition of demographic strategy and the development of demographic policy, taking into account the objective realities and based on a solid scientific foundation aroused great interest of the audience.
