A new competence center, Industrial AI, has been established at our university, focusing on the development of innovative solutions in the fields of metallurgy, energy, and industrial safety.
The project was implemented with the support of the World Bank in collaboration with Kazakhstani companies: "Alpha-Safety" LLP, "Rating" LLP, "Normal Work" LLP, and "Dipmine Technologies" LLP. The partnership with international universities has also provided an additional boost to the development of the center, including collaboration with INTI International University and Colleges (Malaysia), West Saxon University of Applied Sciences Zwickau (Germany), and Tianjin University (China).
The main objective of Industrial AI is to develop and implement artificial intelligence (AI) technologies to automate processes, improve efficiency, and enhance labor safety in the mining and metallurgical sector. The center will also focus on other areas such as the implementation of machine vision systems for real-time data analysis, equipment monitoring, energy infrastructure management, and creating platforms for knowledge exchange and the adoption of advanced technologies.
This initiative is aimed at integrating scientific research and cutting-edge technologies into manufacturing processes, contributing to the sustainable development of the economy in the East Kazakhstan region and Kazakhstan as a whole.
The national emphasis on AI development was highlighted in recent statements by President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, who stressed the importance of innovation for economic growth. During the National Council on Science and Technology meeting, the President mentioned that AI development has already begun in Kazakhstan but requires new institutions. The Industrial AI Center at EKTU is one of the first steps in this direction.
The opening of the center demonstrates the university's significant role in modernizing industry and strengthening scientific cooperation. This initiative will not only increase the competitiveness of domestic industry but also act as a catalyst for training qualified personnel and implementing advanced technologies necessary for the country's sustainable development.
