On November 10, 2023, the webinar of the cycle "Kazakhstan in the era of demographic change" was held within the framework of the grant research project AP19676895 "Kazakhs as the demographic potential of Kazakhstan: retrospective and development prospects", funded by the Committee of Science of the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan. The organizers of the webinar, ISRC "DSR", devoted it to one of the topical problems of Kazakh history: "The impact of demographic disasters of 1920-1930 on socio-demographic processes of the Kazakh ethnic group".

The main speaker of the webinar was Alekseenko Alexander Nikolaevich, Doctor of Historical Sciences, leading researcher of the ISRC "DSR" of the EKTU named after D. Serikbayev. He explained about the methods of calculation of demographic losses and shared his conclusions about the socio-cultural and socio-economic consequences of the events of the first half of the twentieth century for the nomadic civilization.

The webinar was successful in attracting public attention. More than 80 bachelor, masters, doctoral students of Kazakhstani universities, specialists in the field of social sciences attended the event. Among them were representatives of universities of Astana, Almaty, Petropavlovsk, Semey, Karaganda, Shymkent, Ust-Kamenogorsk, as well as researchers of the Institute of History and Ethnology named after Sh. Valikhanov (Almaty), and Institute of State History and Institute of Applied Ethnopolitical Studies (Astana).

Active participation in the work of the webinar was taken by the ANC chairs and the Chamber of Entrepreneurs of East Kazakhstan Oblast. Such a wide range of participants indicates that the problems of demographic history cause a lively response. They are relevant not only from the point of view of the scientific and expert community, but also for the citizens of Kazakhstan as a whole.

According to the results of the webinar, preliminary agreements were reached on the continuation of scientific research and joint creation of new interdisciplinary tools, which would provide a more accurate picture of the scale of the tragedies that befell the Kazakh people.
