D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University (EKTU) was visited by Dr. Alexandros Charitos, Professor at the Institute of Non-Ferrous Metallurgy and High-Purity Materials of the Technische Universität Bergakademie Freiberg (TUBAF, Germany).
TUBAF, founded in 1765, is one of Germany's oldest and most prestigious technical universities. The university specializes in mining, geosciences, materials science, energy, and environmental studies, holding leading positions in research on mineral resource extraction and processing, as well as sustainable natural resource management. TUBAF actively collaborates with major industrial enterprises and research institutes worldwide, successfully integrating scientific developments with practical innovations. The profile and research interests of the German university closely align with EKTU’s strategic directions and objectives related to sustainable development and the adoption of advanced technologies.
During Professor Alexandros Charitos’s visit, working meetings were held with EKTU administration and leading scientists to discuss in detail the preparation and submission of a joint project proposal under the European Union’s primary research and innovation funding program—Horizon Europe, with a budget exceeding 95 billion euros. The parties agreed on key areas of collaboration, identified stages of proposal preparation, and developed a strategy for establishing an international consortium involving European partners.
Participation in the Horizon Europe program provides EKTU significant opportunities to develop international scientific cooperation, implement breakthrough projects, and enhance the university's global competitiveness. The reached agreements establish essential foundations for strengthening EKTU’s research potential, expanding access to advanced European technologies and laboratories, and training a new generation of specialists capable of effectively addressing current challenges in metallurgy, materials science, and sustainable development.
