On April 17-18, Edward Shatz, Professor of Political Science at the University of Toronto (Canada) visited our university. Edward Shatz is a well-known scholar in the field of socio-political processes in Central Asia, head of the scientific center for European and Eurasian studies. He is a permanent expert at the ISRC "DSR".

On April 17, a round table was held to discuss the prospects for further cooperation between the University of Toronto and EKTU named after D. Serikbayev. The discussion was attended by scientists, doctoral students, master's students, and undergraduate students. The issues of comparing higher professional education systems in different countries, features of teaching methods in social sciences, and motivating students to engage in research activities and grant support for research projects in the field of Social Science were discussed.

On April 18, our Canadian guest met with the rector of the university Saule Rakhmetullina, during which the willingness to expand cooperation between our universities was confirmed. All participants expressed hope for the successful implementation of joint plans and confidence in the effectiveness of international scientific cooperation.

Based on the visit of Edward Shats, Professor of Political Science at the University of Toronto (Canada), the following areas and forms of partnership are expected to be developed:

  1. Include the volunteer movement of the EKTU as a source and reference point for the implementation of the project of the Center for European and Eurasian Studies on the study of the volunteer movement in Kazakhstan and Central Asian countries.
  2. In the event of the implementation of the project "Youth in the Cities of Kazakhstan: Socio-Demographic Potential, Risks and Prospects" (an application has been submitted for a grant funding competition), include the study of the aspect of youth volunteer activity in the research program of the ISRC "DSR".
  3. Organize the exchange of scientific data between the ISRC "DSR" and the Center for European and Eurasian Studies on a systematic basis in order to obtain higher quality and more reliable results of social design.
  4. Provide for the possibility of joint publication of the results of partner scientific activities in international and Kazakhstani publications.
  5. Provide access to digital resources developed by the ISRC "DSR" for Social Development (IRCSD) for foreign partners - demographic maps, demographic database, indicative system for assessing demographic security, and provide consulting support when working with these sources.
  6. Ensure the participation of employees of the Center for European and Eurasian Studies of the University of Toronto (Canada) in the international scientific and practical conference "Ethnodemographic Processes in Kazakhstan and Adjacent Territories".
  7. Establish an exchange of expert assessments on the study of socio-demographic processes in the Central Asian region between employees of the ISRC "DSR" and Canadian colleagues.
