Project abstract

Metals are important in many modern industries. Due to the depletion of their mineral resource base, it is necessary to adapt, which means developing new and optimizing existing methods for extracting valuable components from ore materials. Removal or disposal of copper slag leads to the loss of metal values and environmental problems. In particular, dumping requires a large area and leads to many negative impacts, such as erosion and damage to the earth's surface, as well as solid and gaseous substances that pollute the atmosphere. Recently, scientists around the world have paid special attention to hydrometallurgical processes for extracting valuable components from metallurgical slags, many technologies have been developed, but none of the technologies have gone beyond laboratory and semi-industrial tests. This project is supposed to solve one of the listed problems - the development of scientific foundations and laboratory testing of the technology for extracting valuable components from slags of copper smelting production in Kazakhstan by electrochemical hydrochlorination. The method consists in the fact that electrolysis of solutions of alkali metal chlorides is used to dissolve valuable metals from materials. The use of chlorine as a reagent in the processes of extraction of metals from ores significantly expands the possibilities of complex processing of ores with a low content of valuable components.

Only complex processing of copper raw materials will solve the problem of resource recovery and creation of low-waste technologies, which has enormous economic, environmental and social significance. The development of this project will have a positive impact on the level of research and development, scientific and technical potential and competitiveness of scientific organizations in Kazakhstan.

The aim of the work is to develop scientific foundations and laboratory testing of technology for extracting valuable components from copper smelting slags by electrochemical hydrochlorination, aimed at reducing the amount of waste, increasing the complexity and increasing the profitability of processing mineral copper-containing raw materials.
