The international educational project KazUzGeoNomads has brought together leading technical universities of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan to train a new generation of specialists in geology, mining engineering, the oil and gas industry, and Earth sciences.

The project has become an important platform for advancing academic cooperation between the two countries, united by their shared geological heritage and common commitment to developing highly qualified engineering professionals. Its primary objectives are to promote academic mobility, facilitate the exchange of scientific and practical expertise, and strengthen partnerships among universities across Central Asia.

The educational route began in May in Navoi and continued in Tashkent, where the Joint Summer School and the Forum of Rectors of partner universities were officially launched. Throughout the program, participants explore modern trends and approaches in geology, mining, digital technologies, sustainable development, and the responsible use of natural resources.

The project is being implemented with the participation of the University of Geological Sciences, Navoi State University of Mining and Technologies, D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University (EKTU), and Utebayev University. Bringing together students, young researchers, and faculty members, the initiative provides opportunities for academic exchange, visits to industrial facilities, and the study of the unique geological characteristics of different regions.

A special role in the project is assigned to D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University, which will host the final stage of the educational route. From June 22 to 28, participants will visit Ust-Kamenogorsk to explore the university’s educational and research infrastructure, the activities of the School of Earth Sciences, state-of-the-art laboratories, and research projects in geology, critical minerals, and rare metals.

As one of the key participants in the international initiative, EKTU demonstrates a high level of engineering education, scientific research, and effective collaboration with industry. At the same time, East Kazakhstan, one of the country’s leading mining and metallurgical regions, offers participants a unique opportunity to gain first-hand insight into modern technologies used in the exploration, extraction, and processing of mineral resources.

Rector of D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University, Saule Rakhmetullina, emphasized the significance of the project for international cooperation and engineering education: «It is a great honor for our university to be one of the leading participants in the KazUzGeoNomads international project and to host its final stage in East Kazakhstan. The project brings together education, science, practical experience, and international partnership, creating new opportunities for students and young researchers from Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan.»

The participation of the EKTU team is supported by the university’s key industrial partner, Kazzinc Ltd., highlighting the importance of integrating higher education, science, and industry in the training of highly demanded engineering professionals.

The KazUzGeoNomads project represents an important step toward strengthening cooperation between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan in higher education and research. It also contributes to the development of a unified educational space in Central Asia and fosters closer academic and professional ties across the region.
