From 3 to 5 November 2026, a workshop entitled “Introduction to Scientific Research” was held for master’s and doctoral students and early-career researchers in the field of Automation and Control.
The workshop was conducted by Professor Aravind Pitchai Venkataraman, Ph.D. in Control and Instrumentation and Professor of Electrical, Electronics and Communication Engineering at St. Joseph University in Tanzania, Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. Over the course of three days, Professor Venkataraman guided the participants through the key stages of conducting scientific research, including identifying and formulating a relevant research topic, defining the research problem, setting research aims and objectives, searching for and analysing scientific literature, selecting appropriate methods, and developing a research methodology. Particular attention was paid to establishing the relevance and scientific novelty of a study, building a coherent research structure, and applying practical approaches to the preparation of dissertations, scientific articles, and research projects.
Professor Venkataraman’s research interests include industrial automation, computer vision, and artificial intelligence. During the workshop, the participants were also introduced to current research and the prospects for applying advanced technologies in these fields.
The workshop’s practical format enabled the participants to refine their own research ideas, receive valuable guidance, and develop their research planning and organisation skills.
