At the end of October 2023, D. Serikbayev EKTU supported a contest implemented in Ust-Kamenogorsk by our partners for the collection of recyclables for processing by the company "Ekovostokleader". This company has been receiving, sorting and sending various recyclables in our city for many years: paper, cardboard, plastic, aluminum cans, etc.

The idea of separate garbage collection requires active promotion among the residents of the city; therefore, an internal waste paper collection competition was organized at the university to popularize this idea. Waste paper was received by employees of the Center of Competence of Environmental Protection & Life Safety Dana Sovetbekova and Olga Petrova.

Any employee or student of the university could participate in the competition.

23 people who represented their department or study groups registered to participate in the competition. In general, the competition was supported by more than 100 people, including activists of the university's eco-clubs.

As a result, during the campaign it was possible to collect 1,262 kg of waste paper, which was placed in the laboratory of the Competence Center. To send the entire collected volume for processing, students of the School of Earth Sciences came to the rescue under the guidance of the dean of the school Rakhymberdina Marzhan and Deputy dean Asylkhanova Zhanna.

Thanks to the joint efforts of D. Serikbayev EKTU, we took 2nd place in the city competition and received a prize fund of 50,000 tenge! All proceeds will be used to develop green ideas at the university.

The winners of the internal competition were:

  • 1st place – Mashaev Yerbolat, engineer of the Support and Information Technology Department, representing the team of Department;
  • 2nd place – Denisova Oksana, Head of the Department of Organization and monitoring of the educational process, representing the participants of her department;
  • 3rd place – Toguzova Marzhan, Associate Professor at the School of Earth Sciences.
