D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University announces an internal university call for applied research projects under the initiative of the Applied Research Fund in the Republic of Kazakhstan, implemented within the regional GIZ project "Green Skills for a Green Economy in Central Asia" / PROGRESS.
The PROGRESS project is aimed at developing professional green skills, supporting applied research, strengthening cooperation between universities and the private sector, and promoting solutions needed for the transition to a green economy. The call is focused on supporting research projects that offer practical solutions for the energy sector and contribute to the implementation of university research results in the real sector of the economy.
Applications are accepted for applied research projects in the fields of energy, renewable energy sources, and energy efficiency of residential buildings. A mandatory requirement is that the application must be submitted in tandem with at least one enterprise operating in the relevant sector. The applied research project must address a specific problem or task of the enterprise and have prospects for practical application.
The maximum budget for one applied research project is up to EUR 20,000. The funds may be used for research activities, engagement of experts, external services, consumables, publications, patenting, travel expenses, and other justified costs directly related to achieving the project objectives. The availability of a contribution from the university, the applicant, or the partner enterprise will be considered an additional advantage.
The internal competition will be conducted in several stages. After the collection and preliminary review of project proposals, the applications will be considered by a selection committee consisting of university representatives and independent representatives of the private sector / energy enterprises. Based on the evaluation results, the three projects with the highest scores will be submitted to the PROGRESS project for further assessment by an independent international expert. The main evaluation criteria will include scientific novelty, innovation, relevance to the energy sector and the partner enterprise, technical feasibility, commercial potential, economic efficiency, and budget justification.
Project proposals will be accepted until June 30, 2026. The three best applications will be submitted to the PROGRESS project by July 10, 2026. The international evaluation will take place from July 15 to August 31, 2026, and the announcement of the competition results is scheduled by September 11, 2026.
