The University of Sao Paulo (Brazil) summed up the results and awarded the participants of the UI GreenMetric World University Rankings 2024. The D. Serikbayev EKTU re-introduced Kazakhstan to the global educational arena, ranking 97th among 1,477 universities in the world.
It should be noted that this is the fifth participation of EKTU in the prestigious environmental rating, and this year's results show growth, because despite the increase in the number of participants (by 294 universities compared to last year), the university has improved its position by 3 points.
EKTU also reaffirmed its leadership in Kazakhstan – among the 28 domestic universities included in the rating, the university ranks first in the list. It should be noted that this year 10 new universities from Kazakhstan were added to UI GreenMetric at once, which underlines the growing interest of domestic educational institutions in issues of environmental friendliness and sustainable development.
In addition, EKTU retained the third place among CIS universities, and also remained in a stable position among Asian universities, despite increasing competition (the number of participants from Asia increased by 181).
Positions in the UI GreenMetric ranking depend on many factors, including the implementation of the UN Sustainable Development Goals in all areas of university life. The success of the EKTU is based on many years of dedicated work:
- improving the internal and external infrastructure,
- introducing resource conservation and energy conservation,
- actively conducting research and educational activities,
- improving the environmental friendliness of the campus and promoting the principles of sustainable development in society and education.
The achievement of EKTU is the result of the joint efforts of the staff, students and the university administration. Participation in the GreenMetric rating not only demonstrates the university's global achievements, but also highlights the importance of sustainable development as a key objective of modern education.
