From June 25 to 27, 2025, D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University will host the Science and Technology Session (STS) on the topic «Rare Metals: Development of Advanced Technologies».

The event aims to bring together scientists, engineers, and industry experts to jointly address technological challenges in the field of rare metals and find solutions through the design of applied research and development (R&D) projects.

The session is held within the framework of a national initiative to strengthen technology transfer, aimed at integrating scientific developments into industrial value-added chains.

Purpose of the event:

To strengthen cooperation between the scientific and industrial sectors and establish project foundations for launching applied research in the field of rare-earth metallurgy and future technologies.

The Science and Technology Session will follow a combined structure, including:

  • Industrial visits to the production facilities of Ulba Metallurgical Plant JSC
  • Analytical and discussion sessions at EKTU
  • Strategic group work to formulate technical specifications for R&D
Key stages of the event:

Day 1 – Industrial Focus:

Familiarization with the production processes of Ulba Metallurgical Plant (tantalum, beryllium, and uranium industries), analysis of the industrial context, and identification of scientific interest points.

Day 2 – Analytical Focus:

Welcome speeches from officials, discussions on research challenges, and development of applied research frameworks.

Moderator: Ivan Trusov, PhD, expert from the Science Fund JSC.

Day 3 – Project Focus:

Formulation and presentation of technical research proposals, expert evaluation, prioritization of future research areas, and discussion of funding mechanisms.

Participants will include:

  • Representatives from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of Kazakhstan
  • Experts and industrial representatives from Kazatomprom JSC and Ulba Metallurgical Plant JSC
  • Research groups from leading technical universities of Kazakhstan
  • Representatives of research institutes, science funds, and industrial partners

The Science and Technology Session «Rare Metals: Development of Advanced Technologies» will serve as a vital platform for dialogue between science and industry, launching new research initiatives and reaffirming EKTU’s mission as a center for technology transfer, engineering education, and the formation of scientific consortia.
