The round table "Innovations in Medical Engineering: Development of Technologies for Manufacturing Prototypes of Domestic Medical Instruments and Medical Devices" was held on October 31, 2025, in Ust-Kamenogorsk, at D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University (Column Hall). The event was organized within the framework of the PCF project BR24992786 "Development of Technologies for Manufacturing Prototypes of Domestic Medical Instruments and Medical Devices", funded by the Ministry of Science and Higher Education of the Republic of Kazakhstan.
A total of 40 participants attended the event, including 34 offline and 6 online attendees. The round table brought together like-minded specialists aiming to integrate the best achievements in science, engineering, experience, ideas, and business to advance the field of medical engineering.
The event featured presentations from representatives of scientific and medical institutions, including the Kazakh Research Institute of Oncology and Radiology (Almaty), the National Scientific Center of Traumatology and Orthopedics named after Academician N.D. Batpenov (Astana), National Laboratory Astana, the Institute of Metallurgy and Ore Beneficiation of Satbayev University, Kyungsung University (Busan, South Korea), and several others.
In her online presentation, Zhanat Umirzakovna Pysanova, oncological surgeon at the Kazakh Research Institute of Oncology and Radiology, presented the results of using patient-specific constructions manufactured with 3D-printing technology. These constructions expand the possibilities for performing organ-preserving surgical interventions (including joint-preserving surgeries) for patients with onco-orthopedic conditions.
A particular interest among participants was sparked by the offline report of Murad Umirkhanovich Baidarbekov, neurosurgeon of the highest qualification category at the National Scientific Center of Traumatology and Orthopedics named after Academician N.D. Batpenov (Astana), Candidate of Medical Sciences. His presentation focused on the development and application of a trabecular cage in the surgical treatment of degenerative-dystrophic spinal disorders.
Significant attention during the discussion was devoted to issues of international and interuniversity scientific cooperation. Within the project, joint research is being conducted by scientists of D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University and the private institution National Laboratory Astana of Nazarbayev University (Republic of Kazakhstan). Lead researcher Yulia Ivanovna Safarova (offline) spoke about the results of joint studies and the prospects for further technological development.
Associate Professor of the Institute of Metallurgy and Ore Beneficiation, Satbayev University, Candidate of Physical and Mathematical Sciences Aksaule Alipovna Mamaeva (offline) presented the results of research on obtaining calcium-phosphate coatings using various methods.
A report on CFD modeling of fluid flow in porous structures for tissue engineering applications was delivered online by PhD Suresh Alapati, a researcher from Kyungsung University (Busan, South Korea).
PhD Daniyar Kaliyev, Head of the Smart Engineering Competence Center at D. Serikbayev EKSTU (offline), spoke about modern technologies for designing and manufacturing medical instruments. A video illustrating the ongoing work was demonstrated (available at https://storage.ektu.kz/nextcloud/index.php/s/MEjZZAd7icSR8re), and an exhibition of existing and newly developed medical device prototypes, scientific equipment, and other materials was presented.
During the discussion, participants also addressed the development of proposals to support domestic innovations and expand joint research projects aimed at introducing new technologies into practical healthcare. All researchers who delivered presentations received letters of appreciation, and guests of the event were awarded participant certificates.
