This year, the university continues to implement a program-oriented financing project "Research of avalanche activity in the East Kazakhstan region for development of monitoring systems and scientific substantiation of their placement". On Tuesday, January 14, the first element of an avalanche monitoring system was installed in an avalanche-prone area along the Prochodnaya River (Gornaya Ulbinka). At the beginning of winter, the equipment was tested at the university. And now the testing is carried out in real conditions. The project team completed the installation of the equipment. The safety of the work was monitored by observers of the State Institution Kazselezashchita. The equipment includes a snow measuring temperature rail, laser rangefinders, and weather sensors. The autonomy is provided by solar panels and batteries. The data is transmitted to the EKTU server, where it is processed. All the equipment is assembled into a single working system by the university's specialists. Some elements were made directly in the laboratories of the university. After the end of the test period this winter, the network of sensor will be expanded. They will be combined into a single autonomous avalanche monitoring system for the East Kazakhstan region.
