The delegation of D. Serikbayev East Kazakhstan Technical University (EKTU) took part in the national forum "Family and Gender: Values and Contemporary Trends", organized by the National Commission for Women's Affairs and Family and Demographic Policy under the President of the Republic of Kazakhstan in cooperation with the Akimat of Atyrau Region.
The University's participation in such events reflects its ongoing commitment to promoting gender equality, expanding opportunities for women and girls, and fostering an inclusive educational and research environment.
During the forum, EKTU presented its experience in implementing gender policy aimed at ensuring equal opportunities for quality education, scientific research, professional development, and leadership. Particular attention is given to supporting young women researchers, encouraging girls to pursue STEM disciplines, strengthening their research competencies, and expanding international cooperation.
The University consistently implements its Gender Action Plan, which focuses on supporting women in education and science, promoting a culture of equal opportunities, developing leadership skills, and creating favorable conditions for professional growth and self-realization.
These initiatives form an integral part of EKTU's strategy for advancing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). The University actively contributes to SDG 4 – Quality Education by providing access to high-quality education and strengthening research capacity; SDG 5 – Gender Equality by ensuring equal opportunities for women and men; SDG 10 – Reduced Inequalities; and SDG 17 – Partnerships for the Goals through international collaboration and the exchange of best practices.
EKTU views participation in national forums such as this as an important platform for professional dialogue, knowledge exchange, and strengthening cooperation with government agencies and civil society organizations in the field of gender policy. Creating an environment where women and girls can fully realize their potential in education, science, and innovation is a key contribution to the development of human capital and to Kazakhstan's sustainable future.
