 The School of Earth Sciences was established as a mining and metallurgical faculty in 1995. The creation of the mining and metallurgical faculty is logical and related to the specifics of the region. Because,  the mineral resources and deposits of the Republic of Kazakhstan are significantly concentrated in East Kazakhstan. Accordingly, the largest mining and processing enterprises of the mining and metallurgical complex are concentrated in this region.

The normal functioning of the latter to a certain extent depends on the qualifications of engineering personnel, whose education and training is carried out in this school.
The faculty provides an opportunity to get a profession that is in high demand in this region where mining and metallurgical enterprises are basic.
As of today, more than 1,900 students are enrolled at the School across nine undergraduate, nine master's, and two doctoral degree programs.
